Kay Smith Presents Gurdjieff's Teaching On Immortality And Man's Place In The Universe

There is a certain book of aphorisms that Gurdjieff introduced to his students which says: "To know means to know all. To know a part of something means not to know. It is not difficult to know all, because in order to know all one has to know very little. But in order to know this little one has to know pretty much. So we have to start with this 'pretty much', with this idea of coming to this 'very little' which is necessary for the knowledge of all." In some ways, man is analogous to the universe. The same laws operate in him and we can understand some of the laws more easily by studying man and understand other laws by studying the universe. The first thing we realize is the limitations of our perception and thinking power. So included in our study will be the study of our limitations. This system enlarges our knowledge to a great degree. As said before, the Fourth Way is a system of self development that comes from higher mind. Higher Mind does not have the limitations of our mind, so in that, the system can guide us to bridge many gaps in our ability to perceive and think in other categories. Try to think of the world apart from yourself. Even with the help of the telescope or the microscope, we have to admit how limited our capacities of perceptions are. And our capacity for mental seeing is infinitely more limited. It is said that even if we were to come in contact with the source of full knowledge, such as we are, we would not be able to take it or use it because of the limitation of our mind. As we study these areas, hopefully, we will open up our minds to some new points of view. We can improve our instrument for acquiring knowledge, this is the idea of self improvement. From the point of view of this system only knowledge of the whole is regarded as knowledge, because knowledge of the part is not knowledge, it is ignorance. And almost all our ordinary knowledge is merely knowledge of a small part without knowing the place of this part in the whole. Therefore, we cannot gain understanding of our place. Watch to show to learn about Immortality and Man's Place in the Universe.

Kay Smith Presents Gurdjieff's Law of 3

The now familiar ideas of the Russian mystic G. I. Gurdjieff have particular significance today, for there can be no doubt that the world has entered the age of barbarism foretold in legend; and conventional remedies are clearly inadequate. The real value of this teaching lies in its application by which one can learn how to make conscious use of the experiences of life.

If this can be achieved, it begins to inspire one's whole existence with a kind of impersonal delight; but even more significantly it contributes to the pool of cosmic consciousness and thereby helps to offset the forces of evil which are evoked by the greed and selfishness of sleeping humanity.

For good or for ill, life and nature are governed by laws that we can’t change. The quicker we accept this, the more tranquil we can be. We would be foolish to wish that our children or our spouse would live forever. They are mortal, just as we are, and the law of mortality is completely out of our hands.

Similarly, it is foolish to wish that an employee, relative, or friend be without fault. This is wishing to control things that can’t truly be controlled. With this Work, we learn to control our reactions and feelings about things and not be disappointed and controlled by our desires. We develop the ability to deal with events according to facts and understand the laws that we live under, rather than being swept away by them.

In order to learn the control that I am speaking about, we must understand, on a practical level, the laws that we live under. Today's show will explore the Law of 3 and its implications.
