Who Said Latinos Are Not Environmentalists...

There might be some assumptions out there that Latino millennials are not environmentally conscious. We are, and we are consistently reminded by our sweet madres to conserve, recycle and enjoy our parks. Sometimes we miss the message from environmentalists, but we don't miss it from our moms. Here are four example of how we conserve every day!

Conserving water = Mom timing our showers

Generation Latino

A trained environmentalist might say... "Water conservation is adjusting the water management in our homes to help prevent water shortages and trans-mountain diversions."

What we hear...BANG BANG BANG and an abrupt reminder to conserve our water.

Our moms, always pushing us out the door.

Generation Latino

A conservationist might say..."Recreating on public lands has a variety of economic and public health benefits like adding $24 million to our economy and improving our quality of life.”

What we hear... Our beloved madres reminding us to put the video games down and enjoy the parks.

Constant reminders from mom to turn off the lights.

Generation Latino

A climate expert might say...“Energy conservation reduces your carbon footprint by using less energy and therefore contributing to less greenhouse gas emissions.”

What we know... Our moms are always one step behind us turning off the lights.

Don't throw anything away that can be used to save leftovers.

Generation Latino

An environmental scientist might say... "Prevention of waste preserves our natural resources."

What we do... is reuse things that might look like empty food container, always turn off the lights when we leave the room, spend as much time in enjoying our parks, and take short showers. Maybe we are conservationists, but if you do these things you are Latino.
