1. His Holiness the Dalai Lama

As part of the Emory Tibet Partnership, an initiative started to bridge the gap between Western and Tibetan intellectual and social traditions, His Holiness the Dalai Lama has partnered with Emory and serves as part of its distinguished faculty. The Dalai Lama has delivered Emory's Commencement Address, accepted the university's first President's Medal, and has visited Emory both in 2010 and 2013.

2. Former United States President Jimmy Carter

Formerly the 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter actively contributes to campus life at Emory. Most notably, Carter delivers an annual address to first-year students, called the Carter Town Hall. During the address, he fields questions from Emory students, covering everything from foreign relations to his relationship with his wife, Rosalynn. Many Emory students work or serve with the Carter Center in downtown Atlanta as well.

3. CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta

Dr. Sanjay Gupta works as an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Emory University, and as the Associate Chief of Neurosurgery at Grady Memorial Hospital. He has served as a White House Fellow, and has won multiple Emmy awards and recognitions for his humanitarian work. Having traveled the world to cover various conflicts for CNN (most recently, he traveled to Afghanistan and the Middle East), Gupta brings a fresh perspective to the classroom at Emory and encourages hands-on learning for all of his students.

4. Former U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Jeffrey Koplan

Former Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (located right next to campus!), Jeffrey Koplan now serves as the Vice President for Global Health at Emory, as well as the director of the Emory Global Health Institute. Koplan helps to lead the public health school and departments at Emory and uses his knowledge of environmental issues and chronic diseases--both domestic and global--to enrich the student experience at Emory.

5. Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Education at the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing Angela Amar, Ph.D, R.N., F.A.A.N.

At Emory, Amar serves as an assistant dean and associate professor in the nursing school. She has published extensive research and even a few books related to health policies concerning domestic violence victims and the psychological and physical trauma that can follow such violence. Amar achieved an Excellence in Policy and Practice Award for her work implementing interventions and advocating for the development of health policies to support female victims of violence.

6. Pulitzer Prize-winning author Hank Klibanoff

A professor of Creative Writing at Emory and a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Kilbanoff serves as the James M. Cox Jr. Professor of Journalism at Emory. Prior to beginning his teaching career, Kilbanoff served as a journalist and oversaw multimedia reporting projects for students nationally. He brings his love for creative writing and for journalism to the classroom and beyond it at Emory.
