1. Yik Yak (Join The Community)

Yik Yak is an anonymous bulletin board based on your current location. Its tweet sized messages offer an inside look at what the people around you are thinking. You can check it out for a quick laugh or to just hear about what's happening around campus.

2. Tag (Meet Up With Friends)

Once you've made some friends, you're gonna need some help coordinating meeting up. This is tough especially when you don't know your way around, but Tag can help. In one easy click Tag allows you to send a picture/video + geolocation to specifically selected friends or lists of friends so you can say what's up and get directions. At some point you are going to have to study. With all of the online distraction this is easier said than done though. With SelfControl you can create a blacklist of websites that you block yourself from for a predetermined amount of time.

5. Your School's App (Get Acclimated)

This might seem dorky, but most schools have their own apps that can really be a lifesaver freshman year. They often include bus schedules, campus maps, and student directories (clutch for when you have to do that group project).
