The United States Mens' National Team's' all-time record goal-scorer will not be heading to this summer's World Cup in Brazil, after coach Jürgen Klinsmann excluded him from his final 23-man selection.

The 32-year-old L.A. Galaxy striker has scored a national-record 57 goals in 157 appearances. He has appeared in the last three World Cups, and scored five goals.

In 2006 and 2010, I knew for the most part that, unless I was awful, I was going to make the team. This time is more similar to 2002 where I wasn't sure.In that way, it is as competitive as it has been personally in a long time. There is a lot of quality here and you can really make the case for any of the guys to be on the squad.

There is a place on the roster for 18-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder Julian Green, however.

The German-born player has made one appearance for the USMNT, and could become the youngest player to represent the U.S. at the World Cup as they go into a tough group also including Germany, Portugal and Ghana.

Despite his omission, Donovan's late goal against Algeria that kept the United States the 2010 World Cup in South Africa will always remain in American soccer fans' hearts.
