If you're anything like me, the Internet is basically just for searching pictures of animals. After all, the Internet was created for the sole purpose of sharing cute animal videos, wasn't it?
2015 really was the year for animals. Many pictures and videos of animals went viral, gaining many likes, comments and shares, breaking the Internet in the process. Yup, it seems like Kim Kardashian wasn't the only one.
The Ham Dog
Stephen Roseman, who was presumably very bored, decided to share a picture of his dog with a piece of ham on its head. He claimed that the dog was badly burned and asked for prayers.
The post quickly racked up over 75,000 likes, 125,000 shares and 1,5000 comments - most of which were accusing him of being a lifeless troll (which I don't entirely disagree with).
The Bog
When a questionable dog/bear mix turns up at a doggie day care, someone snapped a picture and shared it on social media. The picture went viral and led to a heated debate about the true identity of this cute little thing.
The owner claimed that her pet was in fact a dog - specifically a Pomeranian Mix. However, it will likely take more than that to convince the Internet that it isn't a bear.
Cucumber Cats
When someone discovered that cats are extremely scared of cucumbers, many owners decided to do this experiment. Sure enough, the Internet was flooded with many videos of cats being frightened to death by these elongated vegetables.
PETA was quick to announce that doing this is very harmful for your feline friend and in extreme cases, can even lead to death.
The Dead Raccoon
Jason Wagar came across a dead raccoon in Toronto and alerted contact center via Twitter. When the Animal Service didn't turn up, someone gave the poor fellow a rose, card and even a framed photo.
Their Twitter conversation went viral and the raccoon's grave quickly turned into a sidewalk memorial.
Pizza Rat
In September, a disturbing video showing a rat (later called "Pizza Rat") trying to steal a huge slice of pizza went viral. The rat was filmed struggling to carry his free, outsize treat down some stairs in a New York subway.
The short clip instantly became an Internet station. Some even described it as the ultimate symbol of New York. Since the release, many people have created costumes and some were dressed as Pizza Rat for Halloween at the subway.
The Giant Squid
The huge creature was spotted casually drifting through the waters in Japan. It was one of the first times a live one was filmed, giving everyone a rare glimpse of the magnificent creature.
The rare sighting gathered attention from many websites and social medias alike. It was shared so often that it became the top Facebook trending topic.
The Drone-Hating Chimp
Someone tried to fly a drone over a Chimpanzee enclosure in Burger's Zoo in The Netherlands and boy - the results were not pretty! One of the chimps didn't hesitate to take down the drone with a branch.
The hysterically funny video of apes ganging up on a drone was quickly shared everywhere on the Internet and went viral not long after.
