Before you all settle down with champagne ready for the Queen's speech, there's a lot of Christmas to get through, and it's not always what it's cracked up to be!
If you want to keep your family happy this year, here's a hack list to winning Christmas:
1. Pick a great Christmas jumper
Don't just pick up the first one you find, shop around to get the brightest, most hilarious Christmas jumper you can find. Coming down the stairs to greet your family wearing a flashing reindeer or talking snowman is bound to put a smile on everybody's faces.
Worried they'll wish they had one of their own? Well, keep some of your second choices spare just in case, and return them in the New Year if no one's keen. Otherwise, make a joke of your outfit in family selfies and combine it with an equally colourful Christmas cracker paper hat.
2. Get gifts they'll actually want
Just like your new jumper, don't grab random novelty gifts and expect your siblings to love you more. They want to know you care and put a lot of thought into their presents, just as they did yours (hopefully, awks).
Impress them with personalised gifts that are one of a kind, so they've got a reason to keep them forever. Think about what they like or need, and then put their name on it. Stuck for ideas? Each year, iPhones are one of the most received gifts, and everyone loves a good case.
3. Take charge of the roast potatoes
Food is the main event of Christmas. We all get drawn in with the turkey smells early in the morning, but the biggest draw is the roast potatoes. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and sprinkled with a perfect mix of salt and pepper. Make this your true present by taking charge of these lovelies from peeling to roasting.
The best way to get everybody on board, it to gently shake the potatoes in the pan when they've boiled. This really softens them up, then add them to a pre-heated tray of hot oil. If you need more help, consult Delia.
4. Don't hog the TV set
When afternoon hits and the whole family is full and too sleepy to play with their presents, it's time for classic TV films and new specials. The final thing you need to do to impress your family is NOT hog the remote. Don't change the channel or even alter the volume without consulting everyone in the room; if they're nodding off, ask quietly but clearly and listen to their opinions.
If an ultimate viewing clash is imminent, bow down gracefully and record your show for later. Take deep breaths if necessary.
