If you haven't jumped on the Spring Break train just yet, here are some ideas for penny-pinching travelers still looking to purchase flights for the ultimate getaway.

Head to (or stay away from) ORLANDO if you live in Boston

Orlando takes the top spot for Bostonians this year. In fact, the Sunshine State in general scored big with the Boston crowd –six out of the top ten flight routes from Boston were to Florida. More importantly four of these were cheaper this year, compared to last.

Las Vegas continues to be a popular spring break choice. Students and families flying out of Columbus and Philadelphia chose Vegas as their number one destination and it was also the second most popular vacation spot for travelers out of New York City, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles. Who can blame them with round-trip flights costing as much as 40% less than last year?!

Fly out of (or through) DETROIT

If you are prepared to make a flight connection on the way to your dream mid-term getaway, consider flying through Detroit. Spring Break fares are down for nine of the ten most popular destinations (Tampa, Miami, Los Angeles, San Diego, New York City, Cancun, Salt Lake City, West Palm Beach and San Antonio)!

Set your sights on HONOLULU if you are flying from the West Coast

Hawaii scored big with the West Coast crowd, with 3 different island destinations making it into the Spring Break top ten. Flights to Honolulu, Maui and Kauai are down in price by as much as 21% for travelers flying from Los Angeles or San Francisco.

For the biggest savings, New Yorkers should head further afield

Florida destinations were not as popular with New Yorkers this year as one would expect - Miami and Fort Lauderdale took only the No. three and No. four spot, respectively. Instead, New Orleans was the most popular spring break destination with average round-trip flights costing $298 (down 2%). But for the biggest cost saving, travelers should consider Cancun, Mexico (down 21%), Los Angeles (down 14%), Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (down 18%) or Guayaquil, Ecuador (down 11%).
