This Hack Of Opening Beer With A Knife Is Going Viral, So I Decided To See If It Works

Does it work? I found out!

Have you ever been in a situation where you're trying to open up one of these guys and realize you don't have a bottle opener? SAME.

Well, this hack may be the solution to our troubles. There's a viral trend on TikTok right now called #openbottlechallenge where people are opening beer bottles with a knife, not a bottle opener. Here's one example of how it works:

Here's a man who was a bit ~skeptical~ of it before his lady stepped in to show him how it's done:

And then there are others who are experiencing complete and total fails:

IM DONE This was my second try 😩😂I almost died I can’t do it right. ##fyp ##foryoupage ##foryou

Apparently, this hack can be done with beer bottles, soda bottles, or even champagne bottles. And because there are often situations where you find yourself without a bottle opener, I thought it was pretty nifty. So, for the sake of science, I tried it out for myself!

I've had these ciders sitting in my fridge since Halloween, so I figured they would make perfect test subjects.

After studying multiple videos, I began to understand how the hack works. You tap the base of the bottle with the knife two times, then tap the neck of the bottle two times, then use pressure to slide the knife toward the cap. You can see my technique the first two times I tried (and failed).

Third time really is a charm, because it worked! You can see by my expression that I was not expecting that.

The top of the bottle went flying, so I had to retrieve it, but WOW. It works! I mean, you can't drink directly from the bottle because of the sharp rim, but you CAN pour yourself a nice cold one in a glass!

So, to conclude, this hack works. In a pinch, you can open your beer without a bottle opener. Who knew?! Not me.
