You probably remember how it ended for them, but can you remember how it began?
By the way, the following are major player characters who made it all the way to Season 8.
We first see Melisandre in Season 2, Episode 1 when she is conducting a ceremony for the Lord of Light in Dragonstone. Her final scene is Season 8, Episode 3 where she takes off her necklace and dies at the end of the Battle of Winterfell.
One of Theon's first scenes is in Season 1, Episode 1 where he is present when Ned Stark executes a Night's Watch deserter. His final scene is in Season 8, Episode 3 where he dies by loyally protecting Bran from the Night King.
We first meet Ser Jorah Mormont in Season 1, Episode 1 when he gifts Dany with historical texts and tells her that he served under her father. It's only fitting that his final scene is also with Dany, in Season 8, Episode 3, where he dies defending her in the Battle of Winterfell.
We first see Lyanna Mormont in Season 6, Episode 7 when she is visited in Bear Island by Jon Snow, Sansa Stark, and Davos Seaworth, who seek her help in overthrowing the Boltons. Her final scene is an epic one during Season 8, Episode 3. She dies bravely during the Battle of Winterfell after taking down a wight giant.
Missandei first appears in Season 3, Episode 1 in Slaver's Bay where she serves her master Kraznys mo Nakloz and translates what he says for Dany. Her final scene is a tragic one during Season 8, Episode 4, where she is captured and beheaded on Cersei's orders in front of Dany, Grey Worm, and Tyrion.
We first spot Euron in Season 6, Episode 2 when he returns to the Iron Islands and confronts Balon, throwing him off the roped bridge. His final scene takes place during Season 8, Episode 5 when he dies in combat with Jaime Lannister.
We first meet Cersei in Season 1, Episode 1 when she holds a short conversation with Jaime before going to Winterfell. It's almost poetic that her final scene is also with Jaime in Season 8, Episode 5 where the two of them perish in King's Landing after Dany's attack.
We first meet Jaime Lannister in Season 1, Episode 1 when he has a conversation with Cersei before the two of them arrive in Winterfell. Jaime's final scene is in Season 8, Episode 5 when he travels back to King's Landing and finds Cersei, only to be crushed to death by the destruction.
The Hound makes a blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance in Season 1, Episode 1 when he arrives in Winterfell and removes his helmet, but he gets more screen time (and lines) in Season 1, Episode 2 when he watches Tyrion slap some literal sense into Joffrey. His final scene is Season 8, Episode 5 when he dies in a revenge battle with his brother Ser Gregor Clegane, also known as "The Mountain."
Varys first appears in Season 1, Episode 3 when he greets Ned in King's Landing. His final scene is in Season 8, Episode 5 when he stands before Dany, Jon, Grey Worm, and Tyrion, sentenced to die after betraying Dany.
We first meet Dany in Season 1, Episode 1 when she has a conversation with her brother Viserys in Pentos. Dany's final scene is Season 8, Episode 6 when she comes into power as ruler of the Seven Kingdoms, only to have Jon Snow stab her.
We first see Podrick serving as Tyrion's squire in Season 2, Episode 2 where he accidentally pours wine on Janos Slynt. Podrick's final scene is in Season 8, Episode 6 where he is finally a knight, seen bringing Bran into his first meeting with Tyrion, Brienne, Bronn, Sam, and Davos.
We first meet Brienne in Season 2, Episode 3 where she duels with Ser Loras Tyrell and after winning, asks Renly Baratheon for a place in his kingsguard. Brienne's final scene takes place during Season 8, Episode 6 where she is in attendance for the council meeting with Bran, serving under him.
We first see Tyrion Lannister in Season 1, Episode 1 VERY blonde and at a brothel in Winterfell's outlying town drinking wine — which is very on brand for him. His final scene is Season 8, Episode 6 when he calls a meeting with Bran and his counsel as Hand of the King. Ironically, his last line is a brothel joke, so I guess it all comes full circle.
Grey Worm first appears in Season 3, Episode 5 when Dany asks the Unsullied if they have chosen a leader amongst them, which turns out to be Grey Worm. In his final scene during Season 8, Episode 6, he spots Jon and gives him A LOOK as he waits to sail toward the Isle of Naath, where Missandei was born.
Tormund first appears in Season 3, Episode 1 when the Lord of Bones and Ygritte take Jon Snow into Mance Rayder's tent. He is last seen in the final shot of Season 8, Episode 6 where he rides off beyond Castle Black with Jon and the rest of the Free Folk.
We first meet Yara in Season 2, Episode 2 when she greets Theon upon his return to Pyke, but Theon doesn't recognize her as his sister — only as a commoner at first. Her final scene takes place during the trial of Tyrion Lannister in Season 8, Episode 6 where she weighs in on how upset she is about Dany's death.
Ser Davos first makes an appearance in Season 2, Episode 1 during Melisandre's ceremony for the Lord of Light. His final scene is in Season 8, Episode 6 where he is now named the Master of Ships and sits on Bran's council.
Robin first appears in Season 1, Episode 5 alongside his mother, Lysa. Catelyn Stark has brought Tyrion as her captive because she believes he tried to kill Bran and expects Lysa's support, only Lysa is upset that a Lannister is in her presence. He is last seen in Season 8, Episode 6 — all glowed up, might we add? — at the trial of Tyrion where he votes, "Aye" to making Bran king.
Sam first appears in Season 1, Episode 4 when he arrives in Castle Black and is immediately defended by Jon after he gets made fun of. His last scene is in Season 8, Episode 6 where he's earned his place as a Maester in Bran's council and presents records titled "A Song of Ice and Fire" to Tyrion.
We first see Gilly in Season 2, Episode 1 where she appears as one of Craster’s daughters/wives, refilling wine during a meeting with Lord Mormont where Jon Snow is in attendance. Gilly's final scene is in Season 8, Episode 4 with Sam where they approach Jon before he leaves for King's Landing. Jon finds out Gilly is pregnant with her and Sam's child and she tells him, "If it's a boy, we want to name him Jon."
Bronn's first scene is in Season 1, Episode 4 where he is staying at the Crossroads Inn, offering up his room to Tyrion in exchange for coin. Bronn's final scene is during Bran's council meeting with Tyrion, Brienne, Davos, and Sam in Season 8, Episode 6 where we learn he has been named Master of Coin.
Gendry is first seen during Season 1, Episode 4 when Ned pays him a visit in Tobho Mott's smithy, where Ned recognizes him as Robert Baratheon's bastard. He is last seen in Season 8, Episode 6 after saying, "Aye" to electing Bran as king. But who knows? He might also be on the boat with Arya.
We first see Jon Snow in Season 1, Episode 1 when he's patiently teaching Bran how to properly shoot an arrow. His final scene is Season 8, Episode 6 when he leaves Castle Black to live among the Free Folk after admitting to murdering Daenerys.
We first see Bran in Season 1, Episode 1 as he tries to impress his parents by shooting an arrow on target. Bran's final scene is Season 8, Episode 6 when he is named king and meets with his counsel for the first time.
We first see Sansa in Season 1, Episode 1 when she smugly reacts to being praised for doing a fantastic job on stitching a pattern. Her final scene is Season 8, Episode 6 when she establishes Winterfell as an independent region and is named the Queen in the North.
We first meet Arya in Season 1, Episode 1 as she miserably tries to get her stitching lesson over with right next to Sansa, only to be distracted by Bran shooting arrows right outside. Her final scene is in Season 8, Episode 6 when she decides to leave Westeros and sail west for a new adventure into uncharted territory.
