Since Ariana's New Album Is About To Drop, Here's A Ranking Of All 6 Previous Albums

In honor of Eternal Sunshine being released March 8th, I wanted to do my personal ranking of all previous albums to date!

6. Yours Truly (2013)

Republic

Debut albums are difficult to be the best in an artist's discography. It's their first time discovering their sound and showcasing their music to the world. While Yours Truly has a few great tracks, it's still Ariana's first solo work since being on Nickelodeon, so it's a bit all over the place. What it did do for her was show her off as a vocal icon and paved the way for her massive success in her later works.

Fav tracks: "Honeymoon Avenue" and "The Way" (feat. Mac Miller)

5. My Everything (2014)

Republic

Sophomore albums are arguably more difficult to release than debut ones because they're trying to follow up on the artist's initial success. Although My Everything is anything but her best work, it definitely topped Yours Truly. This is where Ariana started to make her way into mainstream success with major singles like "Problem" (feat. Iggy Azalea), "Break Free" (feat. Zedd), "Love Me Harder" (feat. The Weeknd), and "Bang Bang" (feat. Jessie J and Nicki Minaj). These songs pretty much defined the 2014 music scene.

4. Dangerous Woman (2016)

Republic

As Ariana started to mature and break away from being known as "Cat from Nickelodeon," she started putting out more promiscuous work that really accentuated her vocals and maturity as an artist. She became that girl in a sense, empowering women of all ages with the release of Dangerous Woman. This album is filled with more bangers than of any of her other works to date and is where she started settling into a certain vibe and genre that set her apart from other pop singers.

3. Positions (2020)

Republic

Ariana was definitely horny during the 2020 COVID-19 quarantine, and this album is the result. She temporarily retires the big instrumentals that were present on her previous albums and instead goes for soft, smooth R&B beats that are really pleasing to the ear. While it isn't her most impressive work, especially after the incredible success and versatility of Sweetener and thank u, next, it still provided us with a great soundtrack that gave a sort of escape during a global catastrophe, one that we're still tapping our feet to years later.

Fav tracks: "pov," "motive" (feat. Doja Cat), "just like magic," "love language," and "positions"

2. Sweetener (2018)

Republic

The world was not ready for Sweetener and in the best way possible. Summer 2018 was a pretty boring year for music until Ariana released this absolute masterpiece. Some of her most memorable moments in her career are on this album and it was a moment where she really solidified herself as a pop icon and shot herself into a status that was more on the wavelength of other artists like Taylor Swift. Her vocals truly shine in all of the tracks and it was going to be such a tough album to top if she didn't release thank u, next.

1. thank u, next (2019)

Republic

I always describe thank u, next as an album that Ariana probably didn't need to release for the music industry, but one that she needed to release for herself. It's a masterpiece in using music and songwriting as a way to heal from trauma, as it touches on Mac Miller's sudden passing and the anxiety and PTSD she went through after her Manchester show. Some of the tracks feel like a therapy session of sorts, especially "ghostin" where she seems to be talking to her ex-boyfriend Pete Davidson, explaining that she still sees Mac in her dreams and misses him so badly that it almost wasn't fair to Pete for her to be in a relationship at that time. Every song on this album has a meaning and tells a story, giving us an inside glimpse into Ari's mind. She gives us introspective lyricism while also showing the reality of different coping mechanisms. Her honesty is refreshing and it's a timeless classic.

There are too many good songs on this album to pick favorites!
