We Tried To Get Bigger Lips Without Plastic Surgery Or Fillers And Here's What Happened

    Is JuvaLips actually worth it?

Hey guys! Essence, Chelsea, and Dani here, and we try a lot of beauty products and trends at BuzzFeed. Most recently we tried the JuvaLips Original Lip Plumper, a non-invasive lip-plumping device, because we kept seeing it all over Instagram.

The device retails for $149.95 and claims to be "the most effective lip plumper device on the market. It is compact, easy to use, and safe."

It looks like a vibrator/razor/remote control with a little opening at the top. You put your lips in the opening and press the on button. It runs for 60 seconds, suctioning your lips "at a carefully regulated pressure to boost blood flow into the capillaries of your lips, giving you dramatic results."

Here's a before and after from a woman who tried it on an episode of The Doctors, and the difference was REAL! We were excited to give it a go.

    Essence went first!

I've never thought to plump my lips because it just never interested me to do so. I feel like my lips are pretty full, so I was slightly nervous that it would make them look swollen. After I tried it for a minute, though, I couldn't even see a difference.

In the left pic above you can see my lips before, and on the right you can see what they looked like after a 60-second session with My JuvaLips. No, it didn't make my lips crooked or anything. I'm just weird and my lips wouldn't rest normally after the tingly vibrating sensation.

I literally couldn't tell any difference after round one. I was expecting a noticeable change because of The Doctors episode, and there was definitely some plumpness after they used it. There was a lot of vibration, but nothing uncomfortable or painful. The initial feeling is a little strange because the device gently suctions your lips, but that's it.

I used it again to see if another minute would make any difference, and my lips still didn't look any fuller.

I wondered if my lips would be tender and more sensitive from the first round, but the feeling was basically the same. No pain, all tingle. Again, I couldn't at all tell a difference, though.

Determined to give this thing a fair shot, I gave it a third go against the box instructions for first time users. I still couldn't see a difference, and if there was one, it was so subtle that I feel like it defeated the purpose for someone who would want fuller lips.

Chelsea tried it next to see if she'd have better luck.

I never really tried to fill out my lips, except once when I was 12 and bought that Lip Venom stuff. I bought it more for the glossiness than plumping, though. It didn't do anything. I didn't think JuvaLips would work either, and I was really nervous it would bruise my lips.

It sounded like a vacuum to me when I tried it out. The different pulses felt weird, and I couldn't get over how much it resembled a sex toy. It didn't hurt but it certainly felt weird. My lips felt a little bigger, but I don't think my lips looked different, except they looked more red.

After try two, it just felt tingly again but no real difference. My overall thoughts about this product are just save your money and get some awesome lipstick instead!

Three time's a charm, right?! Dani gave it a final go to see if it would work.

When I was about 15 I tried a lip plumping gloss. I don't remember which one, but I think I got it at Victoria's Secret. It didn't work and just made my lips feel like they were on fire. I haven't tried anything else since then, though, because I'm cool with the way my lips are.

I thought I would see a change, even a slight one, but I don't think anything happened after I tried it. It was just suction, nothing crazy. It doesn't hurt at all, but it is kind of uncomfortable. It also left a red mark around my lips, but that disappeared quickly.

After the second try, I feel like maybe they looked pinker, but not bigger. I don't know that I'd recommend it because it didn't work on me. However, it is a safer alternative than the infamous #kylierjennerchallenge.

So is JuvaLips Original Lip Plumper worth it?

    It's worth it if...

    * You're sticking your lips in Coke bottles to make them plumper.

    * You're wiling to try it consistently over time. We think this is one of those things where you may have to try it three times a day, every day, for an extended period before you see results.

    * You want to exhaust all options before getting fillers or a more extensive procedure. There is a 30-day money back guarantee, too, so you could always return if you find it doesn't work.

Get the JuvaLips Original Plumper here for $129.95 (original price $149.95; it's on sale!!!).

    It's not worth it if...

    * You don't have the patience to try this over and over and over again until you see results.

    * You want something permanent that won't require you to whip out a sex toy-looking device whenever you want full lips.

Until next time, folks. Let us know in the comments below if there’s a beauty trend or product out there you want us to try before you spend your coins on it.
