Even the most zealous lovers of superhero movies can't deny the fact that the writing for the female leads often leaves a lot to be desired. Usually, they're there to serve as the hero's love interest, their level of agency and importance to the plot varying slightly from movie to movie.
To put a spin on the typical treatment of women in superhero movies, the "She Becomes the Hero" project will produce trailers for these movies/franchises that focus solely on the woman's journey.
These may work to highlight how thinly the woman's been written or, conversely, demonstrate how she breaks the mold.
The first of these takes on Mary Jane Watson from the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy.
Plot: An aspiring actress falls in love with her childhood neighbor, unaware that he's moonlighting as the superhero who has saved her life on several occasions.
