Why You Should Be Watching A Young Doctor’s Notebook

Reasons beside the bathtub scene...

Daniel Radcliffe has been making some interesting career decisions after the end of the Harry Potter season, say what you will about them, but I can not deny the genius that is "A Young Doctor's Notebook". It's only 4 episodes long (each episode is about 30 minutes long) but it's long enough to leave a great impression. Here are some reasons why you should catch up on season 1 and look forward to season 2.

1. Daniel Radcliffe and Jon Hamm acting together. They play same person, but at different ages. Radcliffe is the fresh faced doctor who is just starting his career and Hamm is his future self and you can see that he is down trodden and made some mistakes along the way. They have great chemistry and their exchanges make the show fun to watch.

2. Based on Mikhail Bulgakov’s short stories. Say what you will about Russian literature, but you have to admire this shows sense of surrealism. It has a strange mix of slapstick comedy and very dark and heavy issues that shouldn’t work, but somehow just do. It makes the show different and interesting over all.

3. Leopold Leopoldovich: Radcliffe’s predecessor in the show. The staff is reverent of him and the new young doctor just can’t seem to ever measure up. I would really love to know what made this guy so great, maybe a flashback scene? (hint hint producers) and just speaks to the power of a good handlebar mustache.

4. The set up of the show: The fact that the show is only 4 episodes long and is able to convey so much to the audience speaks to how good the writing is. Similar to the set up of BBC’s Sherlock, this format makes the writers have to work harder and shows that quality trumps quantity, as it always should.
