Top 10 WTF Con Costumes

At most conventions, cosplays are pretty straightforward—you’ve got your Commander Shepards, your scowling Batmen, your Disney princesses, your Gandalfs, a bunch of dudes from “300” with rock-hard abs and maybe even a Team Fortress thief. You know, just your garden-variety, run-of-the-mill collection of tributes to your favorite fandoms.

To that we say, “Nothing ventured, nothing gained!” which is why we’ve compiled this list of 10 risk-takers of the cosplay world. These are the people who dare to push the envelope of cosplay. The people who proudly stand up in their weird costumes (if their costumes allow for enough range of motion to stand) and make you say “WTF?!”

1. Redneck Avengers

Instead of Nick Fury, the Redneck Avengers are led by Jeff Foxworthy in an eyepatch. “If you’ve got a Helicarrier on cinder blocks, you just MIGHT be a Redneck Avenger.” These guys opened a wormhole so they could go fishing. Shawarma is the name of their parole officer.

They’ve got six Infinity Stones and they’re all in redneck Tony Stark’s kidney. Much like the regular Avengers, the Redneck Avengers have also assembled to battle a rogue artificial intelligence—the Wal-Mart self-checkout robot.

2. Breaking Bad

The only thing that would make this TMNT/Breaking Bad Cosplay better is if it was accompanied by a Hank Schrader/Casey Jones having a panic attack. “Jesus Christ Marie, They're mutagens!”

3. Red Skull

You guys might think this is a Red Skull cosplay, but it’s actually Grim Fandango after eating a habanero pepper. Just kidding, it’s a regular skeleton in a Hydra uniform getting roasted by his squad. Okay, it IS Red Skull. He looks great!

4. Him

Ever since the office switched from cubicles to an open floor plan, your boss has been acting really weird. Let’s face it; he’s a 6 in the real world and a 9 in the office. He’s so sinister, so evil, so scary, so horribly vile that his real name can never be said, lest fear be struck into the very hearts of men— so he’s only half as bad as most of your coworkers.

5. Iron Giant

This Iron Giant cosplay is amazing but it also gives us a glimpse of a world where the Iron Giant hired a guy to follow him everywhere and literally kiss his butt. "Oh, Iron Giant, you were soooo heroic! Mmmmwah!" Can robots be programmed to enjoy getting kissed on their iron butts? That's for science to answer.

6. Beetlejuice

It's Rule 63 Beetlejuice! Gender swapped! Vice versa, if you will! Imagine an alternate universe where Beetlejuice was played by the Rule 63 Michael Keaton—Michelle Keaton! Imagine her IMDB page! Birdlady! Batwoman! Mrs. Dad! All hail the gender-reversed Keaton! Well, now that science fiction is science FACT!

7. Bert and Ernie

Speaking of Beetlejuice, remember when Otho did a séance and turned Adam and Barbara from ghosts back into humans, but then they began to decay and die, and their jaws fell off and they looked like a couple of withered old mummies?

This cosplay posits the question, “What if that happened to Bert and Ernie instead?” Snuffleupagus is kind of the Beetlejuice of the Sesame Street world. Okay, elevator pitch: remake of Beetlejuice called Snuffleupageuse. Bert and Ernie as the Maitlands! Cookie Monster as the sandworm. This TeeFury mash-up shirt practically screen prints itself!

8. Sexy Tyrion Lannister

[Game of Thrones SPOILER AHEAD] I guess this is why Melisandre has been collecting so much King's Blood—to create this abomination! Straight out of George R. R. Martin’s hidden desktop folder of porn marked “Metallica B-Sides” comes this nightmare mishmash.

I guess Tyrion was so upset about being betrayed by Shae he decided the only way to keep a prostitute from straying was to graft her body to his head. How’s the weather up there, Tyrion??

Sure, Chewie—you want to see your “wife and kids.” Then straight to a hotel made of bamboo to meet up with your side piece here. All her friends are like, “He’s not going to divorce his wife for you, Mallaykam! Come out to the club with us! We’re wearing our ammo belts extra slutty tonight!”
