6 Movies To Watch Before Travelling To Europe

Although fictitious, these movies about travel in Europe will make you want to travel in Europe.

Posted on

1. Vicky Christina Barcelona

Plot: Two friends spend their summer in and around Barcelona, in turn becoming fixated on the same oh-so plagued artist.

Starring: Scarlett Johansson, Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz.

Why you should watch it: If you are going to Barcelona - or Spain, this movie will make you anticipate the warm and relaxing summer nights that might be ahead.

2. And While We Were Here

Plot: While in Ischia (close to Naples, Italy) with her musician husband, Jane (Bosworth) encounters a young, inspiring and (very) handsome American whom she has an affair with.

Starring: Kate Bosworth

Why you should watch it: The setting alone will enchant anyone. The warm colours and heated story line will undoubtedly get you excited for your visit to Ischia or Italy in general, whether it has been planned yet or not.

3. Midnight in Paris

Plot: During a trip to Paris with his future in-laws and his fiancée, a romantic screenwriter named Gil (Wilson) miraculously travels back to the 1920's Paris each day after the clock strikes 12.

Starring: Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams and Marion Cotillard.

Why you should watch it: Woody Allen does a great job at making Paris seem like a magic city with a generous seasoning of wit, beautiful scenes and interesting characters.

4. Welcome to Sweden

Although this is a series, it still deserves to be mentioned on this list...

Plot: An American moves to Stockholm, Sweden with his Swedish girlfriend.

Starring: Greg Poehler.

Why you should watch it: Having previously lived in Sweden for 4 years, it is easy to say that the series provides a humorous look at life in Sweden as a foreigner.

5. Eat Pray Love

Plot: A recent divorcee decides to travel around the world in order to find herself once again.

Starring: Julia Roberts and Javier Bardem.

Why you should watch it: Although only 1/3 of the movie takes place in Europe, the portrait of Liz's (Roberts) time in Rome is fantastic (partially due to the focus on the Italian cuisine).

6. Copenhagen

Plot: Whilst travelling, William (Anthony) meets a Danish girl called Effy (Dahl Hansen) and together they set out to find his Danish grandfather.

Starring: Gethin Anthony and Frederikke Dahl Hansen.

Why you should watch it: The movie provides a rather quirky look at Denmark's capital and its dynamics.
