Here's How To Get Every Type Of Stain Out Of Carpet

Because stains suck.

Carpet stains are the WORST. Luckily, there are quick and cheap ways to get rid of them ASAP. Here's how to solve 7 of the most common:

1. 🍷 Wine Stain 🍷

How to remove them: Use a towel to dab at the wine to soak up as much as possible. Douse the stain in white vinegar, letting it sit for at least 15 minutes. Blot (don't rub!) to get rid of any vinegar that hasn't soaked in. Sprinkle with baking soda and brush at the stain with a wet toothbrush. Rinse the baking soda with water.

2. 🍫 Chocolate Stain 🍫

How to remove them: Let harden and scrape off the excess with a butter knife. Pour a mixture of laundry detergent and water over the stain, letting it sit for a few minutes. Gently scrub the stain with a toothbrush and blot off the excess with a towel. Rinse off with water.

3. 🕯 Candle Wax Stain 🕯

How to remove them: Cover the stain with a damp towel and iron for about 30 seconds with medium-high heat. Transfer out the towel once it's covered with wax. (Careful not to iron the carpet!) Soak the remaining stain in rubbing alcohol for a few minutes and scrub with a toothbrush. Rinse.

4. 👣 Dirt Stain 👣

How to remove them: Vacuum as much dirt as you can and use a toothbrush to brush out the excess. Pour a mix of laundry detergent and water over the stain and let it sit for a few minutes. Gently scrub with a toothbrush, wash with a towel, and rinse with water.

How to remove them: Soak the stain with alcohol, let it sit for a minute, and then gently blot the stain with a towel. Repeat until the stain comes out completely.

6. 💦 Oil Stain 💦

How to remove them: Cover the stained area with cornstarch, letting it sit for 30 minutes. If it's an older stain, you might want to leave it for longer (up to 2 hours). Drizzle dish soap over the cornstarch and working it all into the stain with a toothbrush. Rinse it with cold water.

* This works with stains up to two days old!

7. ☕️ Coffee Stain ☕️

How to remove them: Soak up any excess coffee with a towel and then drench the remaining stain in a mixture of laundry detergent and water. Carefully blot the stain until you see most of the coffee soaking up into the towel. Soak the remaining stain in a little vinegar and blot. You can repeat these steps until the stain is completely gone. Rinse with water.
