What's Your Best Advice For Someone Who Wants To Stop Drinking?

What do you say when someone offers you a beer?

Whether you're doing it for health, religious, or other reasons, cutting alcohol out of your life can be hard.

But even though alcohol is everywhere, there are plenty of people who don't drink.

So we wanna know: What helped make life easier when you stopped drinking?

Did you start drinking club soda at bars because you don't want to have to explain that you don't want alcohol?

Or did you make a ~public statement~ when you decided to quit booze, so everyone in your life knew?

Maybe you joined an after-work sports team, so you could unwind with exercise rather than a beer?

Perhaps you had a really supportive friend that would get you through events where a lot of alcohol was around.

Or maybe you always volunteer to be the designated driver, which is always extremely appreciated by your pals.

Whatever advice you have, we want to know about it. Tell us about the things that helped you during times of not drinking in the comments and you could be featured in an upcoming BuzzFeed Community post!

By the way, if you're interested in quitting drinking because you're worried it's becoming a problem, don't be afraid to talk to your doctor. The following resources on alcoholism might also be helpful:
