Kim Kardashian Defended Her "Advice" For Women In Business And Said It Was "Taken Out Of Context" After The Comments Sparked Widespread Backlash

"It became a sound bite really with no context."

Kim Kardashian has addressed those viral comments about how to succeed in business as a woman, weeks after they sparked widespread criticism and conversations about privilege online.

The reality TV personality and SKIMS founder came under fire earlier this month when she claimed to share "advice" for women entrepreneurs during an interview with Variety.

"I have the best advice for women in business: Get your fucking ass up and work," said Kim, adding, "It seems like nobody wants to work these days."

The Kardashians star has now addressed the backlash. Kim defended her controversial remarks, suggesting that everyone on the internet interpreted them out of "context,” while appearing on Good Morning America today.

"That statement that I said was without questions and conversation around it," Kim said. "It became a sound bite really with no context."

"And that sound bite came off the notion and the question right before, which was after 20 years of being in the business you're famous for being famous," she explained.

"It wasn't a blanket statement towards women or to feel like I don't respect the work or think that they don't work hard," she said. "I know that they do."

Kim also attempted to give an apology, saying, "It was taken out of context, but I'm really sorry if it was received that way."

No word on whether Kim caught Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes' joke at her expense during the Oscars last night, telling Judi Dench to "work harder" and "move that ass" in order to secure an award next year. You can watch some of Kim's GMA interview here, or via the clip above.
