1. Gaz

The creepy younger sibling of Dib on Invader Zim was as prickly and disaffected as they come. While her brother was out trying to convince people of his conspiracy theories, she was about one thing and one thing only: video games. Gaz was aloof, uncaring and above it all. To you we toast, oh dark one!

2. Lydia Deetz

Animated Lydia differed in a few key ways from her live-action counterpart. She was less sour (and angsty) and because of her love of all things creepy; best friends with titular character Beetlejuice. Also, simply being smart, caring and a loyal friend seemed to grant her an all access (roundtrip) pass to the realm of the dead. Or as goths call it, a vacation destination.

3. Henrietta Biggle

Of the precious few regular female characters on dude-bro fart humor show South Park, Henrietta was arguably the most badass. It's hard enough to rock a fancy long cigarette while maintaining that flawless goth disdain for everyone and everything. Except of course other goths.

4. Mai

Hardcore ATLA fans remember Mai as either the apathetic, knife wielding, BAMF introduced in season 2 or the person who ruined their Zutara ship (was never gonna make canon, people). Her relationship with equally brooding and complex Prince Zuko made them a goth-coded power couple.

5. The Hex Girls

The Hex Girls was one of those cartoon bands that you wished were real. They were also recurring characters on Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated. An eco goth rock band (need we say more?) and dark fashionistas, The Hex Girls' whole vibe was a female-led revolution, the world is reborn from the ashes kind of thing. Praise Lilith!

6. Vanessa Doofenshmirtz

Vanessa did toe the line between goth and merely angsty but her dour demeanor, utter disdain for her father and most importantly giving zero f***s on a daily basis puts her squarely in the goth camp. Clad in all black and a bulletproof shield of indifference, Vanessa Doofenshmirtz is a goth hero.

7. Ember Mclain

Ember McLain was a memorable villain if for no other reason than causing the most shiptease episode in the Danny Phantom series. We completely understand how Danny fell under her spell. The ghostly rockstar's hypnotic tunes were as on point as her blue flame hair and freakin awesome eye makeup.

8. Marceline the Vampire Queen

Marceline is free-spirited, fearless and plays a bass guitar made from a freaking axe. But like most vampires, she's fundamentally lonely. Having lost her mother and watched her guardian/best friend go insane, she's seen too much in her one thousand years to not be a bit jaded. While she's occasionally guarded, some of the series' most sweetly heartbreaking songs are sung by Marceline. (She's also voiced by Olivia Olson who voices #6 on this list).

9. Sam Manson

She ain't scared of no ghosts! Sam was brave, iconoclastic and in typical high school fashion, completely in love with her clueless best friend. Perhaps it was her goth inclination to all things dark and strange that attracted her to half-boy half-spirit, Danny Phantom. When Sam wasn't off busting ghosts, she was dismantling the establishment and bringing down the friggin patriarchy.

10. Raven

Aloof, quiet and misunderstood, Raven was the projection of everybody's teen angst. Her power is literally trapping people in dark forcefields. Even though she is a superhero, she's still half demon and a practitioner of shadow magic. Not to mention a physical portal to a dark dimension. The only thing she's missing is an awesome dramatic cloak...oh wait, she's got that too! Raven is one of the ultimate conflicted characters and creature of the night. Hail, hail!
