Rebekah Vardy Opened Up About The Death Threats She And Her Unborn Child Have Received Since The Coleen Rooney Drama

"It makes me wonder if there is more to this than meets the eye. For someone to go public with something like this, there has to be something bigger behind it."

Earlier this week, the internet went into complete meltdown after Coleen Rooney accused someone using Rebekah Vardy's Instagram account of selling fake stories about her to the Sun.

Coleen posted a lengthy note on Instagram alleging that someone who follows her private account has been "consistently informing The SUN newspaper of [her] private posts and stories".

After becoming "suspicious" of which account might be responsible, she had the idea of blocking all of her other friends from viewing her Instagram stories with one exception: Rebekah Vardy's account.

"Over the past five months I have posted a series of false stories to see if they made their way into the Sun newspaper. And you know what, they did!"

Coleen then claimed that she had "saved and screenshotted all the original stories which clearly show just one person has viewed them", before dramatically concluding: "It’s ……......Rebekah Vardy's account."

Rebekah Vardy is, of course, the wife of Leicester City and England footballer Jamie Vardy.

Less than 15 minutes after Coleen posted her original Instagram note, Rebekah responded to her claims with a statement of her own.

Rebekah, who's currently 7 months pregnant with her fifth child, vehemently denied Coleen's claims, alleging that "various people" have had access to her Instagram account and that she wasn't responsible for the leaks.

"I'm not being funny but I don’t need the money, what would I gain from selling stories on you?" she added.

Rebekah concluded her note: "I liked you a lot Coleen and I’m so upset that you have chosen to do this, especially when I’m heavily pregnant. I’m disgusted that I’m even having to deny this. You should have called me the first time this happened."

Well, Rebekah has now spoken out for the first time since the drama went down, giving a brand-new and detailed interview with the Daily Mail. Here are the most important things she said.

Rebekah began by revealing what was said in the phone call she had with Coleen moments after the Instagram note was posted.

I said to her: "Coleen, what on earth have you done?" She said to me: "I'm not pointing the finger." And I said: "You have just annihilated me in public and hung me out to dry. The whole world hates me!" I always thought she was my friend but she completely annihilated me. She said: "You know, I always really liked you, which makes it harder."

She went on to claim that at least a dozen people have had access to her Instagram account over the last few years, saying she believes someone else could have used to her profile to obtain and sell the stories.

Over the last few years, quite a few people have had access to my Instagram account, including a PR agency and an advertising agency ... I have given my password out. It is considered a normal thing to do and I never thought very hard about it. I certainly never thought that something like this could happen, that someone would poach stories about another person via their Instagram.

Rebekah also claimed to have been "on a flight to Dubai" when one of the stories was published, adding that she "doesn't understand why anyone would think that [she] would need to sell them".

The stories were just nonsense, they weren't even damaging. The one about their house flooding was actually published while I was on a plane to Dubai. I don't understand what anyone would gain from the stories, and why anyone would think that I would need to sell them. It's really sad because this is not something that I would wish upon anyone.

She also discussed Coleen's motivation for sharing the Instagram post so publicly.

It makes me wonder if there is more to this than meets the eye. For someone to go public with something like this, there has to be something bigger behind it. I keep on thinking about it and trying to figure it out. It's like trying to work out how someone does a magic trick. I don't know what the reason is — if I had the answer I would be over the moon.

And, finally, Rebekah opened up about the horrific trolling she's received since the news first broke.

In fact, over the last couple of days, she's shared some screenshots of the DMs she's received on Instagram which have, among other things, wished death on her unborn baby.

"Over 24 hours, this has escalated and escalated," Rebekah said in her interview. "I wasn't going to say anything but it has gone so extreme. I have been told that I should die, that my children should die, my unborn child should die."

For her part, Coleen has remained publicly silent since posting her original accusations.

When contacted for comment, a spokesperson for Coleen Rooney told BuzzFeed News:

It is irrefutable that the leaks came from one account, and one account only.
