Justin Bieber has confessed that he was unsure whether he'd be able to "commit" and "be faithful" to Hailey Bieber before proposing.
The singer, who popped the question in July 2018 and married Hailey that September, revealed during an appearance on The Ellen Show that he was worried he wouldn't be able to remain faithful in marriage while weighing up whether or not to propose.
"I was extremely nervous, but not really about her saying 'Yes,'" he explained. "I think I was more nervous about — am I gonna make this commitment? Am I able to make this commitment as a man and be able to honour what I say?"
He went on: "Because it's a serious commitment when you say you're gonna love someone for better or worse, be faithful...that's huge — am I able to do that? That's what I was battling with."
But Justin said he eventually decided to put his fears aside and propose to Hailey, since he's "always" wanted to get married.
"Finally, I was like, 'I'm gonna make the decision, follow through with it and be a husband. This that's what I've always wanted. I'm just gonna choose this woman and do it.'"
The issue of commitment is something Justin touched on in an interview back in 2016 when he and Hailey were casually dating.
Speaking to GQ, Justin explained: "I don’t want to put anyone in a position where they feel like I’m only theirs, only to be hurt in the end."
"What if Hailey ends up being the girl I’m gonna marry?" he went on. "If I rush into anything, if I damage her, then it's always gonna be damaged. It's really hard to fix wounds like that...I just don't wanna hurt her."
And it seems that Justin's ultimate decision to commit to Hailey has paid off in the long run — they looked more in love than ever at the premiere of his new documentary, Seasons, on Monday night.
