1. Shut Up And Play The Hits

This doc is a great mix of concert film and character study. The filmmakers take you behind the scenes of the very calculated demise of one of the most important bands of the last 10 years, LCD Soundsystem. Also: Arcade Fire and Chuck Klosterman make appearances.

2. The Punk Singer

This documentary about Riot Grrl leader and Bikini Kill singer Kathleen Hanna is beautiful, exciting, painful, and inspiring. Beyond the music Hanna has created, the film discusses issues like feminism and fame. It's totally rad and will probably have you wanting to burn a bra by the time it's over.

3. 20 Feet From Stardom

This documentary, which you totally should have seen by now, tells the inspirational and heartbreaking stories of the background singers responsible for some of your favorite songs. The people who did the nonsense at the beginning of The Circle of Life are in it!

4. A Band Called Death

The best punk band no one's ever heard of came out of Detroit in the 1970s. The film tells a story about industry mishaps and unfulfilled potential in a punk story all its own. Seriously, just watch it.

5. Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me

You may not listen to Big Star, or even know who Big Star is, but there is a 90% chance you listen to an artist influenced by Big Star. Sit down get educated, son. The fact that they never made it big might be one of music's greatest injustices.
