but hopefully not (NOTE: some videos contain inappropriate language and/or content)

To kick off the list is this video of Tom Cruise losing his mind over apparently how in love he was with Katie Holmes. Cruise made this particular appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show on May 23, 2005, which mean it's the 10 year anniversary of him acting a fool on national television! People widely ridiculed Cruise for his strange over the top actions, getting poked at in various re-edits and even Scary Movie 4. Congrats, Tom. You're a legend.

    2. Mr. Trololo

Sometimes also known as the "Russian Rick Roll," this 1976 clip of late Russian singer Eduard Khil was all over the internet starting in 2009. In the video, Khil is performing a Soviet-era pop song called "I am Glad, 'Cause I’m Finally Returning Back Home," composed entirely by mouth music. The hilariously bad lip syncing and nature of Khil's performance was funny enough to lead to this video being used for many bait and switch incidences in place of Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" and was even parodied by Oscar winner Christoph Waltz.

    3. HEYYEYAAEYAAAEYAEYAA

"He-Man Sings" is another nickname for this 2005 animated video where He-Man of the animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe sings a remixed rendition of the 1992 hit "What's Up?" by 4 Non Blondes. The song coupled with the brilliantly timed clips from He-Man make for a seriously ridiculous and catchy viral video.

    4. Dramatic Chipmunk

Uploaded to the net in 2007, this clip of what is actually a prairie dog is from a Japanese television show called Hello! Morning. After this particular moment in a video of the show was discovered, it was edited and set to an audio sample taken from the score of the 1974 film Young Frankenstein. The rest is dramatic reaction history.

    5. Numa Numa

Hitting the web in 2004, this particular video was a massive viral hit. Uploaded on the website Newgrounds by New Jersey videographer Gary Brolsma, the video shows Brolsma performing a lip dub of the song “Dragostea din tei” by the Moldovan pop group O-Zone...and for whatever reason, people LOVED it, with coverage reaching outlets like BBC News and The New York Times.

    6. "Shoes" by Kelly

Created by comedian Liam Kyle Sullivan in 2006, the video stars one of his characters named Kelly in her quest for just what the title implies. Sullivan created Kelly to be a parody of the "stereotypical American teenage girl" and mixed it into this somehow catchy song about getting what she wants. The offbeat humor and scenarios depicted in the music video meant "Shoes" was just the brand of weird the internet loved. "Shoes" (along with Sullivan's other popular video "Muffins") was also featured on Entertainment Weekly twice, with recommendations from comedians Margaret Cho and Andy Samberg.

    7. Bale Out

In 2009, after TMZ released a clip of actor Christian Bale going IN on a crew member on set of Terminator Salvation, public reaction was loud and abundant. Getting exposure on every gossip website, news blog, and even Family Guy, one of the most memorable things to come out of this rant is this masterful remix by YouTube user RevoLucian. Honestly, I had this on my mp3 player in high school. Impact!

    8. Charlie the Unicorn

This video was originally posted to Newgrounds in 2005 by creater TypeQueen, but was later taken and uploaded to YouTube where is became the hit that it was. Maybe it was the juxtaposition of the stereotypically sweet unicorn with the morbid humor of this video that made it so wildly popular, but it's hard to say. Whatever it was, it spawned a number of shirts at Hot Topic as well was 3 more videos starring Charlie.

    9. Peanut Butter Jelly Time

Around the year 2002, this flash animation was nearly inescapable. Created by Ryan Gancenia Etrata and Kevin Flynn and set to a song by The Buckwheat Boyz, this video was originally posted to online forums but eventually got picked up by sites like Newgrounds, YTMND, and Albino Blacksheep, which helped cement it's popularity. In 2005, it had second wave success when it was referenced in an episode of Family Guy and has been parodied and copied thousands of times since it's inception.

    10. The Evolution of Dance

In 2006, motivational speaker Judson Laipply was recorded at a show called "Inspirational Comedy" doing his version of the evolution of dance styles set to 32 different songs from different genres and time periods. This creative mashup was watched over 10 million times in just two weeks after being uploaded online and was featured on CNN, MSN, E!, The Today Show, and Good Morning America, to name a few. Laipply was even featured in Weezer's music video for "Pork and Beans" along with other viral video stars. Today, it is still one of the most watched videos on YouTube.

    11. Leeroy Jenkins

There's probably nothing as outrightly humorous about this video as in others, but it had huge viral success nonetheless. Uploaded in 2005, the video captures the PalsForLife guild on World of Warcraft intensely and lengthily discussing battle tactics when suddenly (at the 1:25 mark for those looking to skip ahead) party member Leeroy, who seemingly missed the discussion, yells out his own name before charging into battle and getting everyone killed. In some ways, "Leeroy Jenkins" is the precursor to "YOLO!" Later, it was referenced on Jeopardy and by Jon Stewart on The Daily Show.

    12. Ok Go - A Million Ways

You might know Ok Go from their numerous viral music videos featuring unique choreographed dances including things like treadmills and huge scale dance mobs, but this was the one that started it all. Uploaded in 2005 after being filmed in lead singer Damian Kulash's backyard, it was actually never meant to be the music video for A Million Ways, but rather it was emailed to friends and family of the band and subsequently got posted and spread. It was such a success in garnering attention for the band that they've continued the fun gimmick ever since.

    13. Keyboard Cat

Honestly, no one forgot this one but it's #classic. In 1984, performance artist Charlie Schmidt made this video of his tabby cat called Fatso and later uploaded it to YouTube in 2007 originally titled "Cool Cat." The video itself didn't start getting any recognition until 2009 when YouTuber Brad O'Farrell posted a mashup video of a man falling down an escalator spliced with Schmidt's "Cool Cat" which O'Farrell titled "Play him off, Keyboard Cat." And thus, a phenomenon of Keyboard Cat "playing people off" akin to "giving someone the hook" for a bad performance or embarrassing fail was spawned.
