You'll have green fingers by the time you've read this, I promise.
This tool makes it super easy to pull out any weeds, especially dandelions, right from the root to avoid any future regrowth. It's an important step as any weeds left may cause damage and kill any new plants, and so that any young seedlings don't have to compete for water.
Price: £5.99
It will help you remove any loosely-rooted weeds that grow across beds of gravel, especially if they've started to build up over the last few months.

It's a simple device but one that you'll be grateful for if you have a lot of different potted plants. The probe measures how much moisture is in the soil and the metre will tell you if the levels are low or high. Of course it's definitely worth researching the breed of plant as they will all require different levels of moisture, but as a rule of thumb you ideally want the moisture to be at the 4-7 mid level mark to avoid your plant being too dry or too wet.
Price: £8.49
As magical as it sounds, don't feel too intimidated. The crystals should be mixed in with the compost and they will simply absorb any water and release it once your plants need it. It is perfect for areas that may be a bit harder to manage such as flower beds, deep plant troughs, and hanging baskets. This way you're avoiding any overwatering in the warmer weather which can lead to root damage and some not-so-lively plants.
Price: £5.99
These are my indoor succulents, but this time of year is the perfect opportunity to repot them and place them outside for the next few months!
Succulents are fantastic for even a complete novice as they're easy to grow, easy to water, and will even survive if you accidentally neglect them for a bit! For best results they ideally need to be placed in a well-drained, soil-based compost to avoid any waterlogging. They're also super versatile as they can survive as part of a rock garden too and can be grown in pots, troughs, or in spacious borders.
You can also get away with not watering them frequently as natural rainfall should be enough once they're established in a sunny position.
PSA: It's important to repot these succulents almost immediately so that they have room to grow and thrive.
Price: £19.99 for a set of five potted plants – the selection depends on the time of year.
The porous nature of terracotta allows air and water to pass through the pot, promoting healthy plants and avoiding any root disease from overwatering. It is important, however, to keep an eye on the soil as these pots can mean more frequent watering especially in warmer conditions.
Price: £25.45 for a pack of ten 15.5x13.7cm pots.
Wildflower seeds require a lot less maintenance compared to other plants, you just sow the seeds in soil, water until soaked, and germination should begin in approximately 10-14 days.
Not only will they look pretty, but they'll also attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies into your garden with plenty of nectar and pollen for them to feed on!
Price: £1.59
They require well-drained and moist soil, and you will see the best results if they are placed in a partially shaded area. As they become more established and grow, you may seem them clump together allowing you to move and replant them for an even bigger display.
Price: £18.95 for 100 bulbs.
It can feel a little scary to grow something from a seed, but herbs are relatively forgiving. You want to sow a couple of seeds into each pot and cover sparsely with soil, then water gently and cover the seeds with a resealable freezer bag to retain moisture. Once the seeds have sprouted, remove the bag and watch them grow even stronger. Before repotting them you want to make sure all risk of frost has passed and they're strong enough to survive with little interference.
PSA: Most herbs require direct sunlight during growth so a south-facing window placement is ideal if you're growing them inside.
Price: £13.99 for a pack of 15 seed varieties.
Mixed-fibre pots are a great plastic-free choice for growing seeds as they are made from biodegradable wood pulp. Do be careful not to overwater as these pots will retain a lot of moisture!
Price: £9.46 for a pack of 96.
These are a good choice for smaller areas that don't have a lot of ground space. You can use them to liven up balcony railings, or even hang on fence panels. Each pot does have a draining hole so there is no need to worry about any waterlogging.

Regular compost can be used but you do have to make sure it is completely dry before watering. This specialised potting mix can dry out any overwatering a lot quicker than regular compost, and also provides optimum drainage. The roots on succulents are a lot more fibrous and so this heavier compost will anchor them allowing them to grow.
