People Are Calling Out Rachel Zegler's Take On "Snow White", And Valid Points Are Being Made

Yikes, you might want to sit down for this one...

A clip of actor Rachel Zegler teasing the plot for the 2024 adaptation of Snow White has sparked controversy online.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor labelled the 1937 version as "extremely dated when it comes to the ideas of women being in roles of power and what a woman is fit for."

Gal Gadot, who is playing the role of the Evil Queen, added that this Snow White is "not going to be saved by the prince". In another viral clip Rachel adds, "she's not going to be dreaming about true love. She's dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be."

Since this video went viral, many users and fans of Disney have questioned why romance is deemed as inappropriate for the modern woman.

For example, this TikTok user stated that she could write a "PhD thesis on the pseudo feminism that is criticising Disney princesses."

@cosywithangie

Just because a woman values something different, does not make her any less valuable. Some women want a career and not marriage. Some women want a marriage or family and not a job. Some women want BOTH. All are to be heard, and seen, and valued. Write stories about ALL women and depict them ALL as valuable and worthy, instead of trying to mold them into one specific image of what you deem worthy. Thank you. #snowwhite #snowwhiteliveaction #snowwhitecontroversy #disney

She goes onto say that "not every woman wants or craves power, and that's okay. It is not anti-feminist to want to fall in love."

Other users have made comments in response videos that women shouldn't have to choose between a career or love.

@thechickflicksshow
"You're right, it’s no longer 1937. And you know what else women no longer have to do? Choose between a career or love, we can have both." The idea that making a woman choose only one option, is not feminism.

It seems that Rachel's comments have been gathering steam all over the internet, including X. Here are some reactions there...

What is it with this women empowerment agenda that shamed a fictional character for being saved by the prince?
Snow white was a classic tale about love that conquered evil nothing about that screams weak, this new live action is telling a completely different narrative pic.twitter.com/6USqtPRPS2

Does the new Snow White cast have ANYTHING good to say about the original? I would argue it's one of the old Disney movies that's aged WELL. It's simple but inoffensive. It's remarkable how well it's aged. Also, calling it a "cartoon" is disrespectful... pic.twitter.com/WqkogyVyb2

why does every feministic ideal start with removing men and love. Bffr

It's not just Snow White who was kind & dreaming of love. That was the PRINCE TOO. Besides that, Snow White WAS ALREADY a baddie. Showing u can be a girlboss and be feminine & strong. #RachelZegler pic.twitter.com/qSVjyJykML

Some users have even commented that Snow White and the Huntsman already changed up the tale. Not to mention, the original film was *way* different from the story it was based on anyways.
