We've decided to round up some of our favourite facts:

1. Some of the snow they used was actually mashed potato flakes

Ohhh yeah, potato flakes were a common prop to use to replicate snow, unfortunately they of course clumped together and meant that there was a blanket of mashed potato instead of fluffy, white snow on set.

2. The movie that we see Kevin watching doesn't actually exist

Yup, Angels with Souls was created just for that scene, so the old time gangster movie is sadly not real. According to Vanity Fair, this one-minute and 20-second clip was shot in just one day in an abandoned school gymnasium,

3. Joe Pesci avoided Macaulay Culkin on set to make his character seem scarier

The actor who played one of the criminals admitted: "I intentionally limited my interactions with him to preserve the dynamic between his character, Kevin, and my character, Harry" as he wanted to "maintain the integrity of the adversarial relationship."

4. The ornaments that Marv steps on were actually made of candy

I mean, it would definitely be a huge health and safety hazard if they made him step on actual glass. Still though, sounds painful, especially with bare feet.

5. And the tarantula crawling across his face was actually real

The actor apparently asked if they could take the spider's stinger out, to which he was told "no" as it would die, he responded: "but if you don’t take it out, I’ll die." He ended up doing the scene with the real tarantula crawling across his face, take after take. Bravo.

6. They replicated the sound of a body hitting the ground by using a piece of roast beef

Yup, according to supervising sound editor Michael Wilhoit, they used a frozen roast beef as a body hitting the ground, and took a "soldering iron onto chicken skin to make the flesh bubble and sizzle."

7. The "Wet Bandits" didn't flood an actual home, but instead an abandoned swimming pool

Of course, they'd never want to flood an actual home so they used an abandoned school swimming pool instead. The school's basketball hall was also used to construct the plane set.
