13 Movies To Get You In The Halloween Spirit

The first leaves of fall have settled on the ground, something dark and spooky is appearing in the midnight mist... it's time to get ready... for Halloween! Here are 13 movies to get you into the Halloween Spirit!

Posted on

13. Friday the 13th / Via

"Chh chh chh hhaa hhaaaa haaaa...."

The most recognizable horror sound next to the violin in Jaws. This classic horror film went on to spawn 12 thrasher films. This movie is lucky number 13 on our list.

12. The Worst Witch / Via

"Once in a purple moon, there is a special young witch who shines above the rest. Often she goes unnoticed, because she is always out of step. I have seen this girl trying to fly. Oh yes, I have."

Before there was Harry Potter, there was a witching school in the 80's where a little girl went to school to learn to be a witch. Tim Curry is the hunky and creepy headmaster. Yeah, this movie was definitely trippy, but completely Halloween.

11. The Rocky Horror Picture Show / Via

"Let's do the Time Warp again!"

Tim Curry makes this list again dressed a bit more scandalous. Make your way to a midnight screening if you dare.

10. Young Frankenstein / Via

"It's Alive!"

After Gene Wilder was Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he played Dr. Frankenstein in this classic parody of the famous Halloween monster.

9. Halloween / Via

"I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up because I realized what was living behind that boy's eyes was purely and simply, 'evil'."

Because this movie "is" Halloween. Can you believe the Michael Meyer's mask was a William Shatner mask painted white?

8. The Addams Family / Via

"I would die for her. I would kill for her. Either way, what bliss."

The Addams Family is like any other family, they're eccentric, loveable, and they have a pet hand... Check out the original and sequel Addams Family Values.

7. Zombieland / Via

"It's time to nut up, or shut up!"

If you haven't seen this movie, why haven't you? One of the best zombie movies out there, if not the most funny. Oh yeah, and always check the backseat.

6. Beetlejuice / Via

"Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!"

A girl and her family move into a haunted house, and she learns way more about the other side than she could have imagined. Michael Keaton thrills and would be on board for a sequel. We can still hope.

5. Ghostbusters / Via

"I ain't afraid of no ghost!"

You got ghosts, Bill Murray and Slimer. How could you go wrong?

4. Nightmare on Elm Street / Via

"One, two, Freddy's coming for you..."

This movie still gives me nightmares. Forget the remakes and watch the original movie that started it all. Johnny Depp plays the hot boyfriend with one of the worst death scenes. And the ending - still creepy *shivers*

3. Scream / Via

"What's your favorite scary movie?"

The original Scream is a horror movie classic sporting one of the creepiest Halloween masks. Surprisingly Scream 4 is a great sequel, but you have to get through 2 and 3 first.

2. The Nightmare Before Christmas / Via

"This is Halloween!"

What other Halloween movie can mix with Christmas AND have catchy Halloween songs?

1. Hocus Pocus

Buena Vista Pictures / Via

"I put a spell on you..."

A witch town, a zombie, ghosts, a talking black cat, and Halloween costumes. Done and done.
