Harry Styles Stopped His Concert In Mexico To Talk About The Manchester Attack

"Last night, there was a tragedy in my hometown of Manchester, and I have been left with a hole in my heart."

A terrorist attack at an Ariana Grande concert in the UK's Manchester on Monday night has left at least 22 people dead and many more injured.

After the attack, celebrities flooded social media with tributes to the victims and love for Ariana, particularly those with close connections to the city.

In total shock and absolutely devastated about what's gone down in MANCHESTER sending Love and Light to all the family's involved LG x

And last night at his concert in Mexico, Harry Styles – who grew up in Holmes Chapel, which is near Manchester – gave an emotional speech in honour of the victims of the attack.

I'm heartbroken over what happened in Manchester tonight. Sending love to everyone involved. H

He began the show in Mexico City by asking the crowd to quiet down — then he thanked them for being there: "I know a lot of you have flown a long way."

He went on to talk about his connection to Manchester. "I went to my first show in the arena, and I've had some of the best experiences of my life playing in Manchester," he said.

He urged his fans to send love into the world instead of hatred.

He concluded by saying he'd only be playing a small acoustic set rather than a full show, and asked fans to join him in an emotional moment of silence in honour of the victims.

Here's the full transcript of his speech:

I just want to say one thing before we start. Thank you so much for being here tonight. I know a lot of you have flown a long way. I really appreciate you being here. When I booked this show, I wanted to celebrate with you guys. I've played some of my favourite shows in Mexico, and it felt right to come and celebrate with you, but tonight doesn't feel like a night to celebrate. Last night, there was a tragedy in my hometown of Manchester, and I have been left with a hole in my heart.

I went to my first show in the arena, and I've had some of the best experiences of my life playing in Manchester. We have a choice, every single day that we wake up, of what we can put into the world, and I ask you to please choose love every single day. I promise that we will be back very soon to Mexico with a full show, but tonight, if it's OK with you, we're going to play a small acoustic set. I hope you understand, and I hope you'll join me in a moment of silence for the victims and for the families of the victims in Manchester today. Thank you for understanding. I love you very much.
