One Direction Performs 'Torn' On The BBC Live Lounge For First Time In 5 Years...

And everyone is all torn up about it. Get it? Get it?

One Direction (often hailed as 'the biggest band on the planet', for those who don't know of them) are releasing their fifth LP, Made in the A.M., tomorrow, November 13. Recently, they've begun the PR trail, with a jam-packed agenda to keep them busy through the week.

Today, they joined Greg James for their first ever BBC Live Lounge. Much to everyone's surprise, they decided to sing Torn, by Natalie Imbruglia.

Why is this significant? Only because Torn was the first song that One Direction sang as a group on The X-Factor five years ago. Only because they're about to take a two-year break for the first time in their careers. Only because it was the perfect way to celebrate what they've accomplished in the past five years.

It was the culmination of some incredible, record-breaking, jam-packed years for these four guys. It was a gratification of their hard work, a gift to the fans. It was, in simple terms, their victory.

The fan reaction no less than positively, absolutely elated.

Yes, it may sound we're all making an awful lot out of a cover, but I guess I don't care. There's a lot of significance in them performing this, especially for those that have been following them since the beginning. Here is their original, 2010, baby-faced version, for the curious souls who want to experience One Direction are they were...

And now, the version performed earlier today, for those who want to experience One Direction as they are.

It may sound nearly identical to some, but for the fans who have followed them through their journey, it means so much more. We've grown together, and this performance was a wonderful reminder of that.
