    CUBA: Off Terror List, Next Stop Embassy Opening

    MIAMI. Just as President Barack Obama departed Miami on Thursday, the stage was set for Cuba to be taken off the U.S. list of state sponsors of terror, 45 days after Congress was informed of the decision by the White House, paving the way for increased financial ties between the U.S. and Cuba. Next steps: After the most recent round of U.S. - Cuba talks a week ago, the groundwork was set to open the Embassies in Havana and Washington, D.C., which, Administration officials told CBS News Radio, could happen within a few weeks. In Florida on Thursday, President Obama received muted praise from the Reverend Juan Rumin Dominguez, for his visit to the church that many Cuban Americans attend in Coconut Grove, Our Lady of Charity of El Cobre. Although Florida's governor, Rick Scott, slammed the President's decision to open doors to Cuba, Obama's visit to the Cuban American shrine appeared to be seen as a measure of respect to the exile community, and there was little effort by Congress to oppose Obama's decision to take Cuba off the state sponsors of terror list. Since the White House decision to open limited travel and transactions with Cuba, Americans are flocking to Cuba and this weekend, the soccer franchise, the New York Cosmos, travels to Cuba for an exhibition game. Tuesday, June 2 at 5:00pm at the Pedro Marrero Stadium. Not all in the exile community agree. Cuban American Republican congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen told The Miami Herald that the Obama administration was rushing to make a deal without resolving outstanding issues, such as claims, Cuba's human rights record, and American fugitives.
