Mission: Find the Ultimate Oatmeal Cookie Recipe

Someone had to do it and I found some willing volunteers to help me out.

Via 365 Days of Easy Recipes

After reading Lindsay Hunt's Buzzfeed article We Held A Chocolate Chip Cookie Taste-A-Thon, I knew what I had to do. I searched Pinterest for some of the top (most pinned) Oatmeal Cookie recipes. Some recipes claimed to be "The Best". I decided to put these self-proclaimed accolades to the test. I did have some help from my co-workers, friends, family and neighbors… yup, I feed oatmeal cookies to anyone who came within 50 feet of me.

All the instructions were followed exactly as they were written and the same brands of ingredients used in each recipe. All the cookies were made using a standard ice cream scoop so they were all the same size.

While baking up all these recipes, I discovered the secret to the Ultimate Oatmeal Cookie Recipe.

All recipes were blind tested. Each cookie was numbered and participants agreed to try a sample of each cookie before they choose their favorite.

There was one clear winner that pulled out in the front but there were two other recipes that deserved honorable mentions.

    AND THE WINNER IS...

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies | Liv for Cake

People raved over this Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookie. Maybe it was the chocolate chips that sealed the deal? I thought people may find the cookie too sweet for an oatmeal cookie but I was completely wrong. Obviously. Following the instructions, I was able to produce this delicious thick and chewy oatmeal cookie. Not only did they look perfect, their flavor was out of this world!

Oatmeal Cinnamon Cookies | Taste of Home

The first honorable mention goes to Taste of Home for their Oatmeal Cinnamon Cookies. If people were looking for a traditional Oatmeal Cookie this was the winner. Soft and chewy with an amazing flavour. Exactly the way the perfect oatmeal cookie is supposed to taste.

Sadelle’s Oatmeal Raisin Cookies | The Wall Street Journal

The second honorable mention goes to Sadelle’s Oatmeal Raisin Cookies posted on Brown Eyed Baker's website. If you enjoy an Oatmeal Raisin Cookie with a salty twist, this is the recipe for you. I was a little taken back by the saltiness while I was making these cookies but for the people who loved these cookies, they truly L-O-V-E-D these cookies.

Brown Sugar Oatmeal Cookies | Ree Drummond aka The Pioneer Woman

These cookies were a close follow up to Taste of Home's oatmeal cookie. The Pioneer Woman's oatmeal cookies were a big soft, chewy cookie that would be perfect with a big glass of milk. They also have a great step by step tutorial on the website.

The Best Chewy Oatmeal Cookies | Rock Recipes

If you love raisins, you are going to love these Oatmeal Raisin Cookies. Another big, beautiful chewy oatmeal cookie that's only disadvantage is the fact there are some people out there who just don't like raisins.

    Toronto Star’s Oatmeal Cookies | Thibeault’s Table

These Oatmeal Cookies are a cross between an oatmeal cookie and a buttery shortbread cookie. They were super crispy and crunchy. Perhaps not a traditional oatmeal cookie but still a very top contender in this competition.

Old Fashion Oatmeal Cookies | 365 Days of Easy Recipes

I decided to throw my personal oatmeal cookie recipe into the mix. The original recipe could be switched up to include butterscotch chips, white chocolate chips & dried cherries, chocolate chips or regular ol' fashion oatmeal. The old fashion version paled in comparison to the other amazing recipes listed above, but my favorite version of this recipe would include white chocolate chips & dried cherries.
