Did Beyoncé Predict Brexit?

We all know that Queen Bey reigns supreme, but did she have an inkling about the earth shattering decision made by the Brits last week to leave the European Union? Her Lemonade lyrics seem to match up with the events that have transpired far too well... Illuminati?

Today whilst sitting in the British sun with my girls listening to Lemonade, we came to the realisation that the album is actually not about Jay Z's infidelity – in fact, it is about the UK's relationship with the European Union. Below we have proof that Beyoncé is indeed a member of the illuminati and that she knew that Brexit would happen all along. Allow me to demonstrate by illustrating how each song on Lemonade represents a different part of the events that have transpired over the past few days and weeks:

1. Pray You Catch Me

"You can taste the dishonesty it's all over your breath / as you pass it off so cavalier"

Translation: UK voters in the run up to the referendum are outraged by the disgraceful and sometimes farcical arguments made by both sides of the campaign, whilst each campaign continues to claim that it has the moral upper hand.

2. Hold Up

Translation: The EU is shocked that the UK would even think about a referendum considering all that the EU has done for the UK. The EU playfully reminds voters that they should keep this in mind, otherwise the EU is ready to "fuck me up a bitch".

3. Don't Hurt Yourself

Translation: Top EU leaders are telling the UK to not make a decision that will leave it worse off by choosing to leave the EU. However, since the UK voted out, the EU is keen to see the removal process be accelerated and for the UK to reap what it has sown.

4. Sorry

Translation: Unapologetic Leave voters are saying goodbye and good riddance to the European Union.

5. 6 Inch

Translation: Initially, upon voting leave, the UK struts onto the world stage thinking that it is the business and expecting to "slay". However, the UK will soon realise that this will have huge negative repercussions on the domestic economy and so will have to work harder and longer, staying on that grind, in order to make up the financial losses.

6. Daddy Lessons

Translation: Leave voters tell Remain voters to face their fears and get rid of the interfering influence of the European Union. Although this may be painful, the Leave campaign attempts to reassure voters that leaving the EU will be for the best.

7. Love Drought

Translation: Remain voters are upset about the dishonesty of the Leave campaign, but now that the UK has voted to leave they are trying to see their perspective. Struggling to see the positive consequences of Brexit, Remain voters are pleading to the EU that we could try to stay together and make it work and calm the world and hopefully the financial markets down.

8. Sandcastles

Translation: The UK is telling the EU that all they built together has been demolished, and that it knows that Brexit is deeply unsettling and destabilising for the EU. (The next bit hasn't happened but I really hope it does - creative license and all that.) After realising the extent of the horrific consequences of Brexit, the UK decides against leaving the EU and hopes that they will be welcomed back with open arms despite the hurt and shock that has been experienced on both sides.

9. Forward

"Forward / Best foot first just in case / When we made our way til now / It's time to listen, it's time to fight"

Translation: The British public are coming to the realisation that leaving the European Union means that we must negotiate new terms with the trading bloc and that we must now attempt to make it on our own. Now Britain must band together and make informed decisions on how we should move forward as an independent and unsupported nation-state.

10. Freedom

"Freedom! Freedom! I can't move / Freedom! Cut me loose / Freedom! Freedom! Where are you / 'Cause I need freedom too"

Translation: Boris Johnson is coming to the realisation that the Leave campaign has actually succeeded, and that now he is one of the frontrunners to lead the country in this time of turmoil and uncertainty. Although he campaigned to leave the European Union, he is now uncertain about what this means for Britain's future and for his future political career. He feels back into a corner by the strategic moves that he himself made during the Brexit campaign. But now he is thinking "I'ma keep running (for Prime Minister) 'cause a winner don't quit on themselves".

11. All Night

Translation: OK so this one is more of a personal fantasy that I'm hoping will come true…

In this scenario, the EU recognises that the UK made a stupid ass decision but since the UK is truly repentant (perhaps through the form of a second referendum or an imminent general election) the EU decides to welcome the UK back with open arms.

Sigh. A girl can dream, right?

12. Formation

Translation: This is calling on the British youth to gather and be counted, to mobilise and to campaign for their beliefs and a brighter future. Although an unfavourable decision has been made, Remain voters now need to coordinate to make their opinions known and to fight for their interests through political action.

So there we have it - Beyoncé predicted Brexit. What can't she do?!
