Glasses that can read everything from menus to street signs for people with low vision have received a good amount of media attention this month, including from the New York Times and Bloomberg TV. The device, called OrCam, is made by a company in Israel.

Glasses that can read everything from menus to street signs for people with low vision have received a good amount of media attention this month, including from the New York Times and Bloomberg TV. The device, called OrCam, is made by a company in Israel.

The glasses have an earpiece and a wired transmitter that all work together so users can literally point at something to have it read out loud. OrCam went on sale last week and starts at $2,500.

“OrCam was founded in 2010 with a clear mission –Use advanced computer vision to help the visually impaired and blind regain the functionalities that were lost,” its site reads.

According to the site, it only takes minutes to configure the glasses. They are currently only available in English.
