How Artists Reach Over 100 Thousand Followers On Instagram

There are some working artists from our immediate community and others whose work I admire on Instagram who have more followers than the Jeff Koons' (257 thousand followers) and Damien Hirst's (263 thousand) of the world. I visited with some of these 100 thousand plus artist and others who only have a few so we may learn how social media impacts a career and sales. I hope galleries and museums are reading this too since so many are still brick and mortar and are slowly dying in the world of social and virtual reality.

Suggestions to help increase your follows:

    * Post at least once a day.

    * Post your artwork and not your lunch.

    * Use hashtags as needed but do not overwhelm your followers with too much information.

    * Suggest followers to click on the link on your profile for further information.

    * Update your profile with the link you wish to promote such as where to buy your art.

    * If you need to start from scratch or clean up your Instagram, you may archive your lunch now instead of deleting it.

    Follow Up

Chances are you are never going to reach 100 thousand followers. These artists are younger and some have been on Instagram since it launched. The idea here is to curate your Instagram and give your followers what they want to see. If you are an artist then post art related images and post regularly. By increasing your follows chances are that galleries and art collectors will notice and maybe will follow as well. Submit to publications and group exhibitions whenever possible. Join communities and participate in interacting with other artists online through Instagram and other social media sites. Use hashtags as necessary but don't crowd your posts with an abundance of information. Your followers are there to see your artwork. Do leave specs about the artwork. If it is an oil painting say so and hashtag #oilpainting. Do not use hashtags which are not relevant to your post.

Here are some other worthwhile artists to follow who are not at 100 thousand but are great artists and working very hard to reach higher levels of follows so I am going to help them out to reach their next goal.
