What It's Like Living With A Mental Illness

Sometimes it's hard to get out of bed

You might be exhausted and unwilling to face the day. Pulling the covers over your head and going back to sleep sounds like a much better idea!

Doing necessary tasks might be difficult

Or even impossible.

And then you might feel guilty for "slacking"

When really, you can't help it.

Panic attacks can happen

They feel different for everyone. Just try to get into a safe space where you can ride it out.

You may need to ask for help

Which can also be super hard.

But you might feel ashamed for needing help

Know that there is nothing wrong with needing help and most people are willing to give it.

It's sometimes easy to get lost in the dark

It's incredibly frustrating to be sad all the time, especially if you don't know why.

Food doesn't always taste great

Even if it's your favorite food, mental illness can make it taste like sand. (Not literally, but you won't be excited about it like you used to.)

And sometimes you'll binge

And eat all the foods! (But probably mostly junk food.)

Things you used to love may not be fun anymore

Even picking something to watch on Netflix can be a struggle.

But don't lose hope!

Because there are good days too!

A lot of the time you'll feel normal

Whatever normal means for you.

But don't feel bad or hopeless if you get sad again

Relapse is a totally normal thing. It doesn't make you weak or helpless.

And please know that everything will be okay!
