5 Reasons The 2020s "Twilight" Renaissance Has Officially Made Me Switch Over To Team Jacob

“Bella! Where the hell have you been, loca!”

TheTwilight renaissance was officially kickstarted in 2018 with the movie franchise’s 10th anniversary and stirred by the long-awaited arrival of Midnight Sun (AKA Twilight from Edward’s perspective) in 2020.

I naturally decided to reread the series recently. While I was expecting to swoon at Edward’s moody charm and deep love, I found myself getting angry at his hot and cold act and subsequently getting angry at Bella for dealing with it.

Call it maturing (I mean, I did first read the series when I was 10) or call it being logical and practical, but I couldn’t help but notice Team Jacob…just made sense. So without further ado, here are the five reasons I now rep La Push and the wolf pack.

1. Jacob makes Bella laugh.

It was difficult not to notice the lack of friendship between Bella and Edward throughout the series. It was all, “You’re the Romeo to my Juliet, the Heathcliff to my Catherine,” yet they really didn’t know each other very well. But around Jacob, Bella radiates happiness and warmth. Their easygoing banter and chemistry make it easy for them to be serious together one minute and goof off the next, which sounds way more desirable than a tragic love story.

2. Edward gaslights Bella.

Edward really started bonding with Bella, told her they shouldn’t be friends, then had the nerve to tell her, “I said it would be better if we weren’t friends, not that I didn’t want to be” all in the time span of maybe a week. Throughout Twilight, he is constantly rejecting, belittling, and confusing her. His hot and cold nature upsets Bella to the point of tears or blowing up out of frustration on multiple occasions. Can you say toxic much?!

3. Jacob is warm.

Why would ANYONE (and yes, by anyone I mean me) find the thought of cuddling with a cold vampire desirable? Imagine trying to lay your head on a slab of marble, then imagine laying your head on a nice and toasty, muscular but soft chest. In most cases, it’s the matter of comfort but in some extreme cases (like sleeping in a tent in the middle of a snowstorm while waiting for a clan of new vampires to show up and murder you), it’s life or death.

4. Edward ABANDONED Bella.

The scene where Edward dumps Bella and ABANDONS HER IN THE WOODS must be in the top five most heartless breakups of all time. How could you ever trust someone again after doing something so cruel to you? Bella could’ve died!

5. And most of all, Jacob knows Bella better than anyone else.

We’ve all heard the importance of “marrying your best friend.” Jacob and Bella’s friendship couldn’t be stronger proof of why this is true. Between his thoughtful gifts, his reaction to their wedding invitations (and any other showy gesture from the Cullen clan), and the totally unintentional irony that he can practically read her mind, Jacob and Bella are often more in-sync than Edward can fathom. Sounds like soulmates to me.
