January is National Mentoring Month. Big Brothers Big Sisters is a non-profit organization whose mission is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with mentors. BBBS is one of the oldest and largest youth mentoring organizations in the United States. Our Bigs mentor children of all ages in communities across the country.

When you approach your turkey or vegatarian substitue (huge cabbage?) this Thanksgiving and think of what you have been thankful for, we want you to think about all of the vital people that have played a part in your life's development. There are still many children in need of mentors and you could play a significant role in their lives and see the impact it will have on their futures.

Still not convinced? Well here are 12 reasons to become a child mentor.

National research has shown that positive relationships between Littles and their Bigs have a direct and measurable impact on children’s lives. By participating in our programs, Little Brothers and Sisters are 52% less likely to skip school and 46% less likely than their peers to start using illegal drugs. We also found that the Littles were more confident of their performance in schoolwork and getting along better with their families.

So become a Big Brother or Big Sister and transform someone's life for the better!
