Craigslist has made buying and selling items online a piece of cake. We recognize the convenience it offers, but there are still some risks to buying and selling items online. Here are three simple tips from yours truly to help protect yourself when venturing into the wide world that is Craigslist.

But don't stop there. Make sure your meeting location is a high-traffic area, with plenty of people around. Have a friend join you to meet the buyer/seller, and tell your family where you will be, when you'll be there, and the nature of the meeting.

If you can't meet in public because of the size of the item, like furniture, take some precautions. Buyers should bring a friend, their cell phone, and avoid going into homes. The seller should not allow anyone into their home, but move the item into an open garage, awning, or porch.

DON'T GET PERSONAL

When buying or selling items online, avoid giving away personal information. Do not use a home phone number, so it cannot be traced to a home address. Never post your physical home address, and set up a special email account just for doing business.

Craigslist does not have a regulating agent to ensure items are delivered. It's best to see the item you are purchasing before you buy it. Additionally, beware of scammers offering items that require you to send money, even if not the full amount, before getting the item.
