7 Tips For Avoiding Those Pesky Police Impersonators
From time to time, people will impersonate police officers. Well, we want to help you avoid them at every turn, so here are some tips to help you do just that.
1. Stop in a well-lit area.

If you are being pulled-over, a legitimate officer will understand if you progress until you find a well-lit, high traffic area to pull-over.
2. Flash 'em.

If you are being pulled over, turn your flashers on to bring attention to yourself. Additionally, lock your doors and do NOT turn your car off.
3. Stay put.

Do not get out of the car unless asked to. Generally, officers will ask you preliminary questions before asking you to get out of your car. If the officer doesn't and getting out seems out of sorts, know that you can call 911 to confirm that the person acting as a law enforcement official is legitimate.
4. Where's your badge?

Look for a uniform, official department jacket, and other equipment used by police officers for the performance of their duties. They should at least have a badge. You are also allowed to ask for official identification and to get a good look at their badge.
Legitimate officers will not mind if you ask for identification.
5. Pay attention.

What they are asking? Most officers will tell you why they stopped you and request your driver’s license, registration, and proof of insurance. If things seem out of the ordinary, call 911.
6. Find your mark.

Make sure it is a marked police unit. If it is not a marked unit, the emergency lights should be built in and not a temporary light placed on the vehicle. You can always call 911 to verify that an unmarked police car is in your area or to request a marked unit.
7. Don't hesitate: Call 9-1-1

BOTTOM LINE: CALL 911 OR ASK FOR ANOTHER OFFICER/SUPERVISOR IN A MARKED UNIT TO COME.
