Mystery and Thrillers

This is a genre that is meant to scare, startle, shock, and even repulse audiences, to elicit a sense of dread in the reader through frightening images, themes, and situations. You are a person who enjoys the excitement of being scared, of unraveling a mystery and experiencing a good adrenaline rush.

You enjoy magic, strangeness of setting (such as other worlds or times), and of course magical characters (such as supernatural or unnatural beings). You love to see the main character go on an epic journey, either personally or geographically.

High Fantasy

You are always trying to find the silver lining in things, and enjoy reading books where the characters are absolutely ridiculous — and also, pretty relatable. Books in this style traditionally have a happy ending, and are often a nice, peaceful read.

Comedy

You are a person who questions authority and enjoys reading books that give hope for the future. Dystopian novels usually have a very turbulent and exciting approach to the storyline, where the ending can be either a happily-ever after ending or sad and tragic.

Dystopia

You love escaping into history; it helps you escape annoying modern realities, but is also a good way of analyzing our world through historical times. You like to read about experiences that happened (...or could have happened) in a real place; it's relaxing, cozy, and fun!

_Outlander_ by Diana Gabaldon, _All the Light We Cannot See_ by Anthony Doerr, and _The Water Dancer_ by Ta-Nehisi Coates

Historical fiction

**You like to read about real life and find that reading about the** experiences of others helps to understand the world as well as their own ideas. You find it interesting to look at the world through the eyes of someone else, and find it expands your own worldview, too.
