House Republicans' Border Crisis Chaos As Told By Gifs

Here's a look at House Republican division and chaos as they’ve tried to pass extreme, partisan legislation that fails to address the crisis at the border:

House Democrats made clear we would work with House Republicans to get a bipartisan border supplemental passed. We waited and waited and waited while House Republicans decided what they would put on the Floor to address the crisis, with many of their own Members anxious about heading home without acting on what we all agree is a national crisis.

Last Friday, Majority Leader McCarthy said: “This House is committed to addressing it…. [W]e will keep our commitment that we will end this crisis no matter what it takes. This House will act.”

House Democrats made clear we would work with House Republicans on a bipartisan basis, but on Tuesday, they finally announced a partisan bill that dropped the funding level to $659 million and included poison pill policy changes.

Apparently, that wasn’t extreme enough for their Members so they added a draconian DACA bill, too.

Yesterday, it became clear that Republican leadership still didn’t have the votes to pass their bill and in an embarrassing setback they pulled their bill at the last minute.

It was clear a conservative revolt got the best of them, but they called everyone back to figure out how to pass a bill.

And while we continue to urge GOP leadership to work with us, reports indicate that they’re working on legislation that’s even more extreme.

Meanwhile, even if they pass it, it’s going nowhere. It won’t pass the Senate or be signed into law – and constituents won’t be fooled into thinking that House Republicans took real action at all.
