A History In GIFs: Republican Misadventures That Are Risking A Government Shutdown

A quick look back at how House Republicans’ divisions and infighting over government funding have left us closer to a government shutdown, which will happen on October 1 unless Congress acts.

A government shutdown could do serious harm to our economy, and Republicans have yet to find a responsible way to prevent that from happening:

First, the GOP proposed a bill to continue funding the government; however, it included a separate partisan piece to defund Obamacare:

But the far-right of the Republican party said this didn't go far enough, saying the Obamacare repeal piece was just a stunt, and their objections sabotaged their own party's plan:

House Republican leaders could have worked with Democrats on a bipartisan solution, but refused to do so:

Instead, Republicans have made their bill even more extreme by moving it further to the right:

This time requiring the repeal of Obamacare:

Because trying to repeal it 41 times before has gone so well:

And continuing the reckless policy of sequester, which leaves many of our essential programs underfunded:

So now, Republicans have passed their extreme bill:

    That won’t pass the Senate:

And will not be signed into law by President Obama:

Meanwhile, American businesses & the economy face increasing uncertainty:

And we’re running out of time:

But House Republicans are ignoring reality, living in a La La Land of magic dust and unicorns:

Thinking they can force President Obama to repeal Obamacare by threatening to shut down the government, potentially harming our economy:

Even though the answer was always simple: make a reasonable compromise to keep our government open and not harm our economy:
