    7 things you could have done with $2,000 (and why you’re not getting it)

    Senate Democrats have proposed a bill that will save the average student loan borrower $2,000. That’s a lot of money.

    You could:

    Make a down payment on a used car.

    Pay for a few months’ rent.

    Furnish your first apartment.

    Fly home for Thanksgiving (for the next few years).

    Buy groceries for months (and months).

    Or get a lifetime supply of ramen.

    Or, not that we’re suggesting this, buy 400 feet (that’s 1 ⅓ football fields) of Subway sandwiches.

    Sound good to you? Republicans just blocked it.

    Why? Because it closes tax loopholes on millionaires and billionaires.
