What injury are you most likely to sustain?

You pretty much knew you were going to get in—and why shouldn’t you have? Maybe you were the top of your class at your private high school, maybe you’re a legacy, maybe your parents are just really wealthy or influential—regardless, acceptance to Yale was just par for the course for you. Your outfit today probably costs more than the GDP per capita of the DRC, and you know what? Good for you. No one can fault you for being given these opportunities, and you’re making good use of them. You do you, Entitled Yalies.

Entitled Yalie

You’re glad you got in and everything, but you don’t see Yale through the rose-tinted glasses that most people seem to. Perhaps you’re disheartened by traditions or political and sexual climates on campus; perhaps you’re dismayed by the egregious inequality of the student body’s demographics; perhaps it frustrates you that Yale won’t divest; perhaps you think Schwarzman is an ugly name and that no amount of money would justify naming a building that. Regardless, you don’t hate Yale (why else would you stay?), but graduation isn’t too unappealing of a prospect to you at this point.

Jaded Yalie

You only go to college once, and Fun-Loving Yalies want to make the most of it. You obviously manage to balance school and fun (if you couldn’t, you wouldn’t be here!), but you tend to have a bit more fun than everyone else. If there’s something you want to go to but you don’t have time, you can make time. Besides, what memories are we going to look back on fondly in 20 years—the A- we got on that chem test, or that time we danced on the stage at Woad’s? Let’s be real. Life isn’t worth living if it’s all work all the time, and Fun-Loving Yalies live by that motto.

Fun-Loving Yalie

How else would you have gotten to Yale without focusing on your academics? Studious Yalies take their work very seriously, often do readings in advance, and even attend (shudder) optional sections. To a certain degree, all Yalies are studious, but for Studious Yalies, this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity would be squandered if they didn’t make the most of the education they can receive here. That’s perfectly fine, but just make sure that you aren’t buried in books to the exclusion of any other pursuits. Better to be well-rounded—but more importantly, well-rested. (Looking at you, pre-meds.)

Studious Yalie

Life is about making the most of the hand you’re dealt, and Overexerted Yalies really take that to heart. Nothing is too much for them, and they’ll take three sections and join eight clubs before they realize that they may be in too deep. Overexerted Yalies tend to stretch themselves too thin, but their intentions are good. Maybe they aren’t sure what they’re interested in and they want to dabble in everything; maybe they’re genuinely interested in a bunch of things but aren’t sure how to balance those interests reasonably. Either way, you should probably take a nap—if you can find time for one.

Overexerted Yalie

Sometimes it just really hits you how lucky you are to be here, and this feeling hits Starstruck Yalies pretty often. You like to marvel at the architecture and touch the Women’s Table every time you pass it, stopping even as far in as your senior year to smell the roses and admire the fine woodworking in every room. You truly take to heart how few people get this opportunity, and the constant awareness that you’re one of those few is woven into everything you do.
