We live in a time where public opinion can change at the drop of a hat. Thus, it's no surprise that quite a few things people have said over the years (and even over the past few weeks) have already aged terribly. Here are 16 examples from r/agedlikemilk that made me spit out my coffee:
.This snide comment Ben Shapiro made about the Barbie movie. It was just announced that the movie has made over $1 billion at the global box office.
.This tweet about Lizzo having "good energy" around her. The artist has been sued by her former dancers over sexual harassment and hostile work environment allegations.
.And this book about her that encourages people to "live the Lizzo way."
.This comment from 2009 about how Brian Cranston "can't do such serious roles." Cranston won three consecutive Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for playing Walter White in Breaking Bad.
.This YouTuber who played himself:
.This person who tattooed Colleen Ballinger's name onto their body. Ballinger was accused of grooming her young fans. In response, she uploaded a highly insensitive video of herself playing the ukulele and singing about the allegations.
.This painfully optimistic cover of Wired Magazine from 1997. It claims, "We're facing 25 years of prosperity, freedom, and a better environment for the whole world." In reality, the past decade has had eight of the hottest years on record for global warming. And let's just say this century hasn't been filled with too much prosperity and freedom either.
.This person who said they wanted to die at a Travis Scott concert. At his Astroworld Festival in 2021, 10 attendees were killed in a crowd crush.
.This person who commented on a video of Marilyn Manson saying, "This man is just too smart for cancel culture." More than a dozen women have accused the singer of sexual assault and abuse.
.This newspaper snippet about a young Steve Martin's standup performance:
.These lyrics from Ariana Grande's song "Thank U, Next" about how she's "gon' make that shit last" when she gets married. Her marriage to Dalton Gomez just ended after only two years.
.This quote from Popular Mechanics Magazine in 1949 about how future computers will weigh no more than 1.5 tons. My current laptop weighs a mere 4 pounds.
.This note that someone's father wrote to their mother about how he'll be in his children's lives. "In 2001, my father wrote this letter to my mom, promising that he would be in my life. I have not seen him since 2008. He lives 30 minutes away."
.And finally, this person's prediction about touch screens. Enough said.
