Upshot may only do brunch once in a while (they open especially for it on select Saturdays, so keep an eye on their website/social media for announcements) but they do it very well – as you will see from the pictured rarebit on toasted sesame, linseed, and sunflower sourdough bread topped off with hearty slabs of bacon.

    2. Forge Bakehouse

Forge Bakehouse / Via Facebook: ForgeBakehouse

As the name indicates, Forge Bakehouse is a bakery, so any brunch item you're getting that involves bread will be about as fresh and tasty as it's possible to get. They do brunch with a twist, such as their Aloo Sabzi Baked Eggs. Or if you have a sweet tooth then the pictured French toast with banana, raspberry, peanut brittle, chocolate sauce, and peanut mascarpone may well be for you.

    3. Anchorage Bar

If you're after a boozy brunch then Anchorage is for you. They offer bottomless drinks, so that's as many mimosas or Bloody Marys as you can stomach. The food follows the American East Coast theme from the rest of the menu, so expect buttermilk pancakes and waffles alongside Reuben omelettes, kimchi eggs Benedict, and heuvos rancheros.

    4. Tamper Sellers Wheel

Tamper aims to "bring the best of New Zealand's café culture to Sheffield" and one of the best bits is their breakfast and brunch menu. The full English is given a twist into The Big Kiwi whereas veggies may opt for The Ozzy, alongside a whole load of other options available, from wild rice bubbles to Nutella-stuffed French toast.

    5. The Depot Bakery

    6. Marmadukes Cafe

    7. The Hidden Gem Cafe

The Hidden Gem perhaps offers one of the most unusual brunch dishes in the whole of Sheffield, the Beetroot Gravalax: in-house beetroot-and-dill cured salmon with béarnaise sauce, homemade crumpet, dressed watercress, and a herbed crumbed poached egg. This is served alongside more traditional breakfast options, eggs, omelettes and sandwiches.

    8. The Grind Cafe

Sometimes the simplest dishes are the best and the Grind Cafe's English breakfast is one that takes some beating. That said, should you fancy something a little different then options are still plentiful, including their baked egg and chorizo ragout.

    9. Cafe Des Amis

    10. The York

Serving on Saturdays and Sundays only, the York knocks up a solid brunch menu with all the egg staples (florentine, Benedict, baked) alongside other traditional dishes like smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Other dishes dishes include brioche French toast, which you can wash down with one of their speciality brunch cocktails, such as a marmarita (marmalade, triple sec, lime, and tequila).

    11. The Rude Shipyard

    12. The Wig & Pen

    13. Lucky Fox

Waffles and pancakes are the way to go at Lucky Fox if you fancy something sweet, although they offer one of the best veggie dishes in the city in the form of the Hippie Banjo: thick-sliced sourdough toast, poached egg, avocado, watercress, and tomato.

    14. Homemade by Thelma's

"Traditional", "Simple", and "Different" are the three headings that break up Thelma's breakfast/brunch menu. Regular, veggie, and vegan breakfasts occupy the traditional; eggs, porridge, and toast the simple; and the different comprises dishes such as the Sheffield Rarebit – toasted Seven Hills Bakery sourdough topped with mature cheddar, wholegrain mustard, Henderson's Relish, Abbeydale Brewery beer, and onion marmalade.

    15. Made by Jonty

Made by Jonty's morning grub is so good (and popular) that they keep the menu open all day long, meaning that everything from breakfast burritos to Belgian waffles to kippers and brunch bagels are available from opening until close.

    16. The Harley

The Harley may well be the cheapest spot in the city for good breakfast and brunch food and they start serving from 7:30am too. Regular fry-ups and egg dishes sit alongside their vegan-friendly tofu scramble and their hangover-busting breakfast burgers (from the Twisted Burger Co.).
