What is PAH? Pulmonary arteries carry blood from the heart to the lungs, where it picks up oxygen to be delivered throughout your body . In PAH, the pulmonary arteries constrict abnormally. This forces your heart to work faster and causes blood pressure within the lungs to rise. When blood can't get oxygenated, you get short of breath, simple things become like climbing a mountain, your chest feels tight and aches, your blood can't get oxygenated and progressively your body--your organs start to die. It's like drowning, Like getting your air cut off.
