Sean Bean Just Put Your Fan Theories To Rest About What Ned Stark Whispered Before His Death

And, no, he wasn't saying anything about Jon Snow.

Hey, Game of Thrones fans, let's take a moment and flash all the-fucking-way back to Season 1, shall we? Specifically to Episode 9, "Baelor."

In case you need a refresher, this is the episode with Ned Stark's iconic death.

Now, you may not remember ALL the details of this heartbreaking scene, but Sansa was screaming her poor little heart out, Arya was hiding in Yoren's arms, and that little shit Joffrey was being, well, Joffrey...

...but, while all that madness was going on, Ned himself was doing something far more subtle: He was WHISPERING.

Now, for years GoT fans have been wondering WTF Ned whispered.

Theories have ranged from, "I kept my promise" — a reference to raising Lyanna and Rhaegar's secret lovechild (Jon) to, "Valar Morghulis" — the iconic Essos saying that means, "All men must die."

However, in a recent interview with the Huffington Post, Sean Bean put the theories to rest and revealed he was simply SAYING A PRAYER. Bean explained:

I couldn’t be too specific, because I don’t know if religion [like that] was around in those days, whatever they were. I just thought, "What would you do if this were really gonna happen?" You probably would pray. You probably would murmur some words and you’d keep it quiet. You’d keep it to yourself.

And he understands why there would be some elaborate theorizing from fans.

It’s quite subtle in that many people wouldn’t pick it up. It was an interesting thing to do for me at that point. There’s not much you can do really, you’ve got your head on a block. That’s about the only thing you can do is murmur.

So, there you have it folks. Ned Stark was saying a little prayer.
