So you recently graduated from college with your undergrad degree ready to take on the world and find your dream job! Well you find a job, not a dream, and here are some things you should know from my experience:

1. Look rested.

We all know you were living the life in college, waking up at noon for class, staying out long past midnight but now you are a professional. A professional who wants to avoid the "Are you feeling okay?" "Did you have a late night?" comments that I've thoroughly enjoyed.

2. Don't say "dude."

Yes it's true you cannot use your youthful slang and be taken seriously. There is a time and place but at work, as I've learned, is not it.

3. Be prepared to be volunteered for tasks nobody else wants to do.

Being the note taker, attending meetings as your department's representative and clean-up duties will be on your to-do list. Don't worry you will impress them all with your range of abilities.

4. Befriend the receptionist.

She may not be as powerful as Donna but she can make your day with her hilarious comments, quick visits to your office and is known to set aside magazines for you.

5. Pack your lunch.

You will most likely gain weight by eating out everyday on your lunch break with the combination of sitting most of the day at your desk. True story.

6. Others will be jealous of your youth.

Reminiscing about their college days with you and reminding you to enjoy it while you can will constantly be brought up by your coworkers in conversation. Just let them have their moment.

7. Nobody is paid enough.

Everyone thinks they are worth more, some are and some aren't but you will be the judge of that.

8. Find your mentor.

Look up to a successful coworker. Study their good habits, know how they would handle certain situations and learn as much as you can from them. Basically use them, suck them dry.

9. Be prepared for rejection.

In case you didn't realize it yet, your ideas are not always going to be acknowledged. Keep it up though and they will realize your brilliance in time.

10. Remember this is a good experience.

Okay so this isn't what you imagined while studying away in college but it's a job. You landed a solid job right out of college. It will give you experience and you know you are not chained down to this forever. You will do the best you can and move down your chosen career path in time, a little less green and a little more prepared for things to come.
